I haven't run in 3 weeks due to an ITBS injury, which really turned out to be caused by tightness and scar tissue on my poptileus (muscle behind knee) and my hip.
I'm feeling like I am ready to start running again but I'm nervous I'm going to re-injury myself.

I have an olympic in 4 weeks which is my A race, so I really want to be in the best shape possible and I feel like I need to get up to at least 6-8 miles in the next two weeks to feel like I can finish and finish under 3 hours.

For those of you who've come off an injury, besides starting out slowly, what else should I do?

Coming from someone who suffers from chronic ITB and plica syndrome issues:

 - Be religious about warming up, cooling down, stretching, and pliometrics.

 - Ice and massage frequently.

 - Listen to your body!

There will be other A races.  Would you rather risk injury to run THIS one or not run any for the next few years?  Because if you let ITBS become chronic, that's what will happen...it won't go away for YEARS if at all...

How about considering a walk/run approach for your return and even for the race?
