Through a stroke of luck, I picked up a local Tri-DC magazine recently in a bike shop.  I was looking through the schedule of races and saw one on the same day as the 3Sport... it is also right down the road from me which makes it easier to get to.  On top of that, the swim in the same sort of 300m snake swim, which with my almost non-existent swim training is one reason I was looking to do the 3Sport... so the 3Sport is out and here I come BRATS Triathlon #2 at Vint Hill.

Now to come up with a number for my swim estimate for the 300m.  Was thinking I'd go with 6:00 minutes.  Hard to tell since I've spent so little time swimming and keeping time.

I was going to see what you had in your logs for an estimate of time but you don't have anythig there.  How fast is your best swim?  I'm stil over 6 minutes....

I'm volunteering this race anyway.  It's 2 weeks before my Oly.

I don't do logs, training sheets or anything of the like.  Of the few training swims I just haven't timed myself and the one that I was going to... the swim lanes had people loitering all over them so that didn't give me very good times.  Went to the pool yesterday to get some training in and my time... kid throws up in the pool during my first 25m.  Yippeee skippy, pool was emptied and closed!!

I think I submitted 6:15 for the 300M and I am just going to leave it at that.  If I pass people great, if I create a log jam... sorry, if I hit it on the nose that's fine too I suppose.  I will probably hit the Aquatic Center in Manassas on Tuesday evening.  My girls have practice in Manassas on Tuesday and Thursdays, so that might actually work for some swim training, otherwise I live in a decent pool vortex of nothingness close to me.

BRATS event is listed here btw: http://bristowtriandswim.com/

This week is a bad week or good week going into this race, I can't decide which.  Had a nice "sockless" bike ride on Sunday followed by a good run day on Monday with some weight training.  Got some swimming in on Tuesday and I think my time is going to be OK.  I had really hoped to make the Wednesday evening group bike ride following a really stressful workday, but that fell apart like soggy bread.  I had this mental plan of how I wanted my training to go this week and it sort of fell apart after Monday.  Thursday is usually a rest day, but I think I'm going to go run this morning, maybe do a bike ride or swim this evening.  After that I'm going to shut it down, eat right and work on getting mentally prepared.  This whole thing is a learning experience... excited for Sunday morning though!

Well to update my blog of sorts... up @ 4AM on race morning.  Hope to get to the race site by 6:15 to set up transition and figure out the transition area.  Drinking coffee and  made my oatmeal, will make a bagel w/ peanut butter to take with me.

Went to the race site and rode the bike course and run course.  Bike and everything I need are already packed in the van ready to go.  My wife laughed a little bit at all the crud I had out on the living room table and my check list I printed off of here.  I went and picked up my race packet yesterday and did the race meeting at the pick up, so I'm ahead of the game there.  I'm gambling and deciding to not carry any tubes, C02, levers, etc. on the bike.  Haven't put my bike number on yet either... since I'm not sure where to put it.  I'm thinking the best placement will be on my seat tube vertically since it might bug my thighs on the top bar.

I was planning on racing w/out a top, but I'd like to do a gel on the bike and my shorts have no pocket.  Not sure about taping it to the top bar either, so I've crammed a gel into my sleeveless top that I'll toss on in T1.  Otherwise I'm nervous but excited.
