I went on a long bike on Sunday and my cycling shoes were all sweaty and wet. I put them into the hot water cupboard to dry out but now they smell really bad...

What do you put in yours to stop the smell? Same applies with sockless running shoes.

Put bike shoes upside down alone without insole in the dishwasher with normal dishwashing soap. Wash but do not dry them and then when done, put newspapers or towels in to get water out as much as possible then if you have a boot warmer that dries winter boots or the like put them on that.

Works great for any wet and smelly bike shoes.

I wash mine 3-5x a year..after races when I pee on my bike for sure.

Running shoes go in wash machine don't dry them.

Dishwasher / bike shoe thing works great.

Running shoes accumulate a funk that defeats washing machines after a few washes. You'll get another month out of them after each wash, but the cumulative body of funk in the shoes will eventually take over...

Soap, water and sunshine. The UV rays from the sun actually will do alot of the work for you getting the funk out.

Just rock your stink and leave the stuff in the garage.  Seriously, Fabreeze them down liberally, then stuff newspaper in them overnight.  When dry you're good to go.

crumble up newspaper and put it in the shoes.  No joke. It's the one thing newspapers are better at than the internet.  It's an old-school trick, but it does the job, and much cheaper than fabreez.  It's an old trick I learned from my father who used to work construction and had some smelly water/mud drenched workboots.

It's the cupboard where your hot water cylinder is for the hot water in your house. It's nice and warm, and dries out everything.
