Subject: Question about the jerseys
It seems like when Lance was winning the tour, he wore the yellow jersey along with his Postal (and later, Discovery) shorts (or bibs?).  After Lance, it seems that the race gives out a yellow jersey and matching yellow bibs?  Have they always done this and Lance just didn't want to wear the bibs?  Seems like I have noticed the same thing with the Green sprinters jersey and the KOM polka dots.  A few years ago riders were just wearing the jersey, now they each have matching bibs.

Thoughts?

Ok, looks like Hush. is wearing just a green jersey today (well, and a green helmet and shades).

AFAIK, the race gives out the jersey.   Teams do special things (i.e., yellow bike, yellow handlebar tape, yellow helmet, polka dot shorts and helmet, etc.)  Makes you wonder which teams bring those in anticipation....

I agree... But also, I'm sure apparel sponsors are more than happy to rush a pair of yellow bib shorts, shoes, gloves, etc if they've got a guy with the jersey.

My favorite moment was when one of the KOM jersey wearers, a week or so ago, had almost all polka dot gear!

Thought it was cool that Thor's bike was painted to compliment his green jersey today.

Ok, good stuff.  It did look like Astana had provided some 'special' bibs for Contador that I noticed for the first time today, and the green stripe on Hushov's bibs as well.  Good stuff.

They did a feature story on the yellow jersey last year and how they present it on the podium.  There is a guy w/ hundreds of yellow jerseys in a trailer, if I recall, he basically has one for every rider and team should anyone win.  When he finds out who the winner is, they iron on the corportate logos.  Then after the winner gets the jersey, he goes off the podium and signs a bunch of jerseys also w/ the logo.  The jersey presented is not the one that they race in, has been this way for years.  Podium jerseys have a zipper in the back, racing jerseys in the front.

Usually, if a team has a legit contender for any jersey, they usually have ones made and ready for them before the race starts.  Having matching bibs is done at the discretion of the team, not the tour.

On one episode of the coverage, Liggett said something about Cippolinni getting fined for going to over the top with yellow gear when he wore yellow. I don't recall the exact item that did it, but apparently it violated UCI regs somehow. Seems that maybe they've changed that rule since.

Apparently Pellizotti took his team by surprise...two days he rode in liquigas green and blue bibs and a polka dot top. Today, magically, he's all polka dotted.   How'd THAT happen?!
