Davis Aquatic Masters

Sunny
Total Time = 44m 12s
Overall Rank = 203/220
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 21/23
Pre-race routine:

Get up early, get everything organized, and drive up to Lake Berryessa. Have usual freak out about not getting there early enough, but of course there was plenty of time.

Actually found my masters group this year which was a new and different thing, we were having a pot luck, so brought a couple of salads (from grocery store) but forgot to bring either plates or forks to eat them with. Hmmm... try to do better next year.
Event warmup:

Walk down to water about 15 min before the start, keep walking, keep walking - um, yeah, the water level is even lower than last year which is saying something. Basically, we're walking on the lake bed and walking right past where the swim USED TO start. Get into water in my usual slow wade-in routine because it was cold, dang it!

Comments:

Started off well, but never found any feet to follow - so on my own for most of the swim. Had a few chats with people on the last leg of the course, it was really fun and relaxed. Just got into a good zone and went for it. I don't really "race" this event, just do it for the fun. I've definitely swum more this year than last year, 6 min better than last year's time, although I'm still not close to my ultimate goal of beating my best time ever (37 min and change...) I guess I should put that in my long-term goals so I can remember it.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - swim more of course. Then I might actually be able to break 40 min instead of just wishing for it.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out, ate a lot of food - then went shopping afterwards - perfect day in Napa.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough swim yardage - I need to swim a lot more if I want to get faster.

Event comments:

Best Pacific masters OW swim of the year.
