Comments: Travel and work this week have really interupted my sleep over the past 3 nights. I was working on a total of 9 hours sleep over the past 3 nights, so I didn't know what to expect. The weather today was PERFECT for a good race. It was overcast at the start and 50's with a little wind. The wind was going to be a head wind going out and tail wind coming back. That being said, I didn't have a game plan going into the race. Under the conditions, I felt I could PR. However, I didn't figure out what splits I would need to make it happen. My best 10k was 52ish. At the gun I felt good and the first mile was 7:53. I didn't think I could hold that so I backed off and ran the next 3 miles at 8:05-10's. After mile 4, I decided to go for sub 50 (one of my running goals for 2005). I picked up the pace a bit and used the tail wind to my advantage. Mile 5 was around 8 flat. Mile 6 was my best yet at 7:36. I was pretty tired, but managed to hang on during the last stretch to finish at a surprising 49:02 chip time (2nd half split was almost 1 minute faster than first 5k). I PR'd by a long shot. This is a time I don't expect to beat for a while. All in all this was a great race under perfect running conditions. Sleep is over-rated. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: walk around and stretch. Event comments: This was my first ever race last year and I will try to make it an annual event. Last updated: 2005-05-07 12:00 AM
