I did a short bike/swim brick the other day and didn't feel like putting my cycling shorts back on after the swim. so, I just road home in my jammers. I was completely surprised at how comfortable I felt. Now it was only 3 miles back home so definitely not a long-term test but I was still surprised.

I just wanted to ask if anyone has had the same experience and has started cycling without a pad.

Try using tri shorts instead of bike shorts.

I'll bet your experience with no pad at all will change when you start breaking 25 miles or so per workout

x2 on the tri shorts as you go longer on the bike, but be careful swimming in the pool regularly in them.  Chlorine can destroy a pair of tri shorts if you don't take great care of them afterwards.  Even if you do, it'll wear them down rather quickly.

Well, sure, I regularly commute 3-5 miles without a pad.  Wink

For any training ride an hour or over (pretty much all of them), I'll take the pad.  But x2 on the idea of using tri shorts if you like the 'minimalist' feeling.  I've done rides 100+ miles with tri shorts and find them just as comfortable as regular bike shorts (not that anything is particularly 'comfortable' after 100 miles in the saddle...).

I don't wear bike shorts ever....They make parts of me go numb. I only wear tri shorts and that problem goes away. I have ridden up to 60 miles with no padding at all.  I've done all my long rides for my IM in just tri shorts.

I dont own any bike shorts, just tri shorts and i've put about 1500 miles on my tri bike, as long as you have your butt'r and a comfy saddle that fits your body you can live with out a pad or with just a tri pad
