Good Points: It was a local triathlon, women-only to boot, and they bothered to show it on TV at all. Lots of people saw it and now want to do a triathlon, thus getting more people into the sport. (I know because most of them seem to work at my office and are now asking me about a hundred questions each.)

Bad Points: Spent 60% of time on pros, 39.9% on sob stories and 0.1% rest of the field. Felt like an Aflac infomercial at times.

Senior Bad Point: They didn't get me in any of the shots at ALL! Cry

My favorite part was the two leading pros during the bike ride.  They were riding side by side and then passed on the inside - wonder if they got a penalty for that!

I thought it was not even a show about triathlons - it was definitely a show about Aflac and quite boring at that.

I was in it but would not have known had I not seen the Youtube posting first.  My kids and I tried our darndest to try and pause it right on me but it was impossible.  I did see a full on shot of a friend of mine - Liz Wilkins!

I agree Cindi.  I did enjoy watching it, but think you nailed it.  I was a little disappointed.  The only shot of me is when my swim wave took off, you can see me from the back running into the water.  How exciting is that!  And, they didn't even get my cool puppy on camera!!  What's up with that, she should have had some camera time! Wink

It was good PR for the sport though...

Oh, missed your post.  And didn't it seem as though the 2 pros in front were drafting???  There was no dropping back when passed, and certainly not enough distance between the 2 bikes.  Oh well, they were amazing anyway.  And did you catch the run pace of the winner, it was something crazy like under 6 min./mile.

Definitely very little to do with the actual triathlon.  The sob stories are good "personal interest" stories to have but they definitely seemed to be the focus rather than a complement to the actual sport programming.

The pro coverage was kind of boring.  Although, I had no clue that pro/elite triathletes do butterfly in the shallow water.  (I also saw the attempted pass and wondered if there were any penalties for that)

What was with the chest shots of the "normal folks"?

It definitely felt like paid programming..pretty cheesy overall.

Good Points? Awesome to see some of my favorite pros out on the course since I was working transition.

Bad Points? I was working transition and in several shots.  Ugh. Great for the self esteem.

I definitely thought it was drafting, she didn't drop back when passed. I laughed when i saw the right-side pass. You can tell she started to do the correct pass on the left, then decided to "screw it" and pass right when she saw the other girl so wide left in the lane.

IMO, there were numerous position fouls in that shot:
1. Blocking by Mirinda (I think), who was sitting out in the middle of the lane;
2. Passing on the right by Pip;
3. Probably drafting by Pip b/f the pass, although I don't think the shot was a full 20 sec b/f the pass;
4. Overtaken violation by Mirinda for failing to drop back out of the draft zone once passed.

That said, I really enjoyed the pro race coverage. I was depressed with all of the sob stories....watching that show you'd think the only people who do triathlons are pros and people who have suffered terribly unfortunate circumstances in life.

And WHERE WAS THE DEVIL! I CANNOT BELIEVE THE DEVIL DID NOT MAKE THE COVERAGE!!!!

Guess the AFLAC commercials took too much time.

I was slightly disappointed in the coverage but mainly because I wasn't on it and there were too many Aflac commercials. I think what Aflac has done for the cancer center in Atlanta is amazing but I didn't want to see more than one commercial every time they went to break.

I didn't mind the human interest stories but I think they could have been a tad shorter. They showed like 6 women? What about the other 908 women who were racing? There was very little commentary about the race course as a whole. BUT it was a triathlon on TV and that doesn't happen very often and if it gets people interested then I'm all for it. (and honestly, triathlon isn't much of a spectator sport, either. not like a team sport)

*I saw the pass on the right as well (and really only thought how they looked like they were hauling azz) so I looked it up. The rules for Elites are slightly different. In their rules, it doesn't say they have to pass on the left like it does for the age groupers. If you want to read it, the rules are here.

The devil was definitely a welcome diversion when needed on the race course!  My son loved the devil!
