Comments: This was my first workout since Bridgetown so I wasn't expecting much out of this effort. More went just to get out of the house and have a ride. I started hard and go up to speed quickly; dropped into the bars and focused on keeping the pace high down the hill (first 1/3 of the 10km is mostly downhill) before turning onto the more rolling section. Found it hard to get up to pace going up the short hill and down the next but eventually settled in just before the steepest climb. Andrew Peakcock (one minute back) passed me at this point but I knew I was gaining on at least the guy one minute up so I focused on just staying fast. As we headed towards the turnaround I could see the other athletes and knew that my one and two minutes athletes were in striking range and that my three minute guy might be reachable. I focused on staying very uncomfortable in terms of pace and as tight and aero as possible. I caught the guy who was one minute up at around the 15km mark and then as I turned up the final hill I was right behind the two minute man. I passed him with about 2km to go and I knew that I was on the edge of a PB for the course. I pushed up the final hill in aero as long as possible and then got out of the saddle and pushed hard through the finish. I was seeing stars and my teeth hurt so I think I pushed about as hard as I could. What would you do differently?: More cycling as I was still about four minutes back of the first place rider.
