Pre-race routine:

Got my bike checked into transistion met Chirs (Hazmaster) and Leah there as Chris was racing and Leah officiating. Then went over to body marking and pre-race meeting. Heard the meeting with some comedy from the race director who calls himself sir. Then on to the pool deck where the slower swimmers start first.
Event warmup:

Light streching not much.
Swim
  • 23m 46s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Slow swim as I am not used to a 50m pool and I did not swim much lately. Also not having my goggles didn't help. I didn't have much rythem in these long lengths kept swiching form crawl to breast and back.
What would you do differently?:

Bring goggles and swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Slow as I was bagged after the swim. not bad puting shirt and shoes on but getting over to transistion was slow as I sauntered as others ran by me.
What would you do differently?:

run not saunter
Bike

  • 23.33 km/hr
Comments:

Not a bad ride felt pretty good this was obviously my best leg and I didn't blow it like the other two. I enjoyed this ride had two out and backs one was down a long gradual hill and back up. Nice fly down it and not too bad coming back.
What would you do differently?:

Get a road bike its almost time go get one now.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

My best part of this race and I am rating it good. I got off the bike fast got it on the rack and I was off running.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my race number is on.
Run
  • 36m 33s
  • 5 kms
  • 07m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Slow run that started and finished bad. I had to strech right away as my calfs tightened up then I got going and was being passed like crazy. I got a slow but ok rythem and didn't have to do too much walking but jog was slow. Then near the finish line went off course and there were about 7 of us and it didn't seem right so someone yelled we were offcourse so we had to go back.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster and stay on course
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Didn't train too much for this race as the heat wave was upon us and got a bit lazy.

Event comments:

Good race and well organized. The field was much more competitive than last one in Langley. Lots of Ironmen competing also larger field.

Great job out there Neil, saw you out there on the bike and you were flying! Too bad about the run, I feel your pain, I have been tanking as well. Keep the training up, it'll come. Great meeting you!
