Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations? I am staying right in town.

FYI, I am volunteering; I'll be in the men's changing tent @ T1.

Thanks for volunteering! I actually put together a quick list of places to eat for my family (yeah, I made, like, an entire spectator packet for them). BTW, I haven't eaten at all these places (just The Brewery and Dancing Bears--both were great!). I sort of cobbled it all together from different sites and based them on reviews. Anyway. Here's what's on there:

Places To Eat In Lake Placid

Lake Placid Pub & Brewery
813 Mirror Lake Drive
Lake Placid NY 12946

Serves great beers and delicious foods (I recommend the fries!). You can kick back on the deck overlooking Mirror Lake with a tasty Ubu ale (or any other number of locally brewed ales). Serves lunch and dinner daily from 11:30 a.m. (noon on Sundays) until 9:00 pm (10:00 pm on weekends) and is located on the southern end of Mirror Lake Drive.

Great Adirondack Steak & Seafood Company
2442 Main St
Lake Placid NY 12946

Breakfast 8am-11am; Lunch 11am–3:30pm; Dinner 3:30pm–10pm. Conveniently located in the middle of Main Street across from Mid's Park and Mirror Lake. Adirondack antique atmosphere and cozy bar, seasonal outdoor patio seating and outdoor oyster bar. Live lobster, fresh seafood, steaks, pasta. On premise brewery (The Great Adirondack Brewing Co.) with tours and tastings as well as logo souvenir glasses and growlers to go!

Dancing Bears
2384 Saranac Avenue
Lake Placid, NY 12946

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this Lake Placid restaurant features cozy street-side dining. Made to order breakfasts including homemade blintzes and granola, fresh baked pastries, buttermilk pancakes with fresh berries, and of course, fresh brewed, flavorful gourmet coffee. Lunch and dinner offer dining selections of delectable appetizers, signature pizzas, deli sandwiches on fresh breads, with nightly dinner specials. Take it to go or stay and enjoy a tasty local and boutique beer, regional and boutique wine by the glass, and cocktails of all shapes and sizes.

Brown Dog Café & Wine Bar
2409 Main Street
Lake Placid, NY 12946

Overlooking Mirror Lake & the Adirondack mountains, Lake Placid’s original wine bar offers lunch with market salads, creative soups, paninis or create your own signature sandwich on the custom order slips with gourmet spreads, imported cheeses, artisanal breads & house roasted choice meats. The wine list offers over 60 wines by the glass & exceptional reserve selections.

Bluesberry Bakery
26 Main Street
Lake Placid, NY 12946

This wonderful bakery features scrumptious scones, Llinzer tarts, streudels and delicious coffee. The owner is one of the best pastry chefs anywhere.

Great list of places to eat, not much to add to it.  Heading up Thurs pm, the whole 45 min. trip (home field advantage). Have condo in LP one street behind Main St. Good luck to all and be safe. Wait for my wife and I to cross together (the plan at least) sometime before midnight. Best time to finish. Enjoy the day and have a great "Rock Star moment!"

Also if we just keep showing Fred's picture, we will hit 250 pages before the race!

I'll play. Also, I hear the bike's faster when you ride it than when you carry it.

PennState - 2010-07-22 1:02 AM OK, here is my take on group BT Lake Placid activities:

1. We should try to meet up. I think the best chances are the am swim. I will be at the swim before 7am (say 6:45am) and will swim 1 loop on Thursday and Friday. I will be on the steps area of the building by the water where the showers and restrooms are. Thursday I have to get my bike in for a quick check, so I won't be around after as long. Friday yes I will.
Rich, James, Scott and a few others have met me and will be able to find me. I will wear a bike shirt identical to the one in my avatar that says "CENTRAL PENN RACING/ THE BICYCLE SHOP"

2. Friday athlete dinner sounds great. It will be quite difficult to all meet up outside of the main tent, but if anyone has ideas let me know.

PM me or call me if you want to definitely meet up.

*** I tend to lay pretty low prior to ironman events, so the am swims will be the things that work best, but I am open to suggestions and would like to meet up with most if not all of you (unless of course you'd rather not )

My clock's been pretty messed up since flying over but I plan on meeting you down at the lake in the morning.  I'll be the one in a parka

Hey All! I am here, we go there this afternoon and I'm looking forward to a short run and swim tomorrow some time.  I'll probably be at Placid Planet watching the tour in morning. I'll probably be wearing orange MOST of the time .

Where did that L bicep come from?!!!  I mean, I swim with ya, and I aint see that before.    Maybe it's the tight euro style bike jersey.  Either way, you look like you're ready to rock!

Jorge & I decided our fav last year was the Great Adirondack Steak & Seafood that Swishy mentioned.  There is a little diner near the oval that has good breakfast...can't think of the name of it but if you pass transition on your right and keep walking down the hill on the main drag, it will be on your right before you get to Art Devlins.

One of my goals for this year, in addition to finishing my first IM (which will happen on Sunday) was to be able to post "before and after" weight loss pictures that I would be proud of.  Well folks, I'm going to cross both goals off my list this week, so here they are:

BEFORE:
Summer 2008 (I'm sucking my gut in for sure in this pic)
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4817150310_5e16beaff1.jpg

30th Birthday Party (November 2009)
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4817150338_73639987dd.jpg

AFTER:
Here's me "tapering" on Friday, July 16, 2010:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/4817101972_5891e29968.jpg

And here I am ready to kick some Lake Placid butt:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4100/4817221998_cfbe9248c9.jpg

That's 236 to 171 (66 pounds) in 9 months.

^^^^^^ I think you lost weight in these pictures but I can't tell as I can't get beyond the slick brown courderoy jacket with orange sweater vest fashion statement.

In all seriousness, congrats on becoming a healthy happy person!
