Morning, folks.  What are the odds that anyone around here has a men's L finisher shirt that they would be willing to trade for a M?  I put my shirt on this morning and it was a little snug, but as a first-time IM finisher I would love to be able to wear it.  I'm still in town now (518.523.9269), or you can hit me up with an e-mail: hart should ice (at) hotmail.

Congratulations, folks.  It was a great day.

I heard someone ask an official about exchanging shirts for a different size this morning and he was instructed to email [email protected] for info.

Not to speak ill of IMLP, but can I talk about the condition of the road surface at IMLP?

In short, it has the worst overall road surfaces in my experience (IM Arizona, Cozumel, Canada, plus HIM Boise & Lake Stevens, local tris).

Keene descent was the worst section. Right side of the lane a bumpy patchwork of cracks, patches on patches, and frost heave lines. The middle of the lane was a washboard (I was wondering what parts were going to fall off my bike). The left of the lane a bit better if you didn't mind blocking. Add in steep and twisting, crosswinds and rain on the first loop, and Keene was a white knuckler for me. If you managed more than 35 mph down that yesterday, then I think you've earned the right to change your name to Knievel.

Other than that, there were just many stretches of road with a patchwork of patches and cracks all down the right edge of the lane, sometimes for hundreds of yards, other times just ten or twenty yards of garbage pavement then back to fairly reasonable.

Is that "normal" for this area? People talk about McDowell Road and the Beeline in AZ, and that's a baby's bottom compared to Lake Placid. I'd even take the chipseal of Boise (which has the rolling resistance of contact cement) any day. Canada's and Cozumel were both great roads, BTW - what I'd call "normal".

Can we share our top speed from yesterday?  I hit 45.3 on the 2nd loop (Keene descent).  I wasn't watching my speed during the first descent due to the rain.  I agree the roads aren't the greatest, and I don't understand why they kept a piece of the original out-and-back on Haselton.

The roads in the 'North Country' are ravaged by ice every year. The roads do suck...but since I'm somewhat local I get to train on them, which helps. The patchwork was done last week and is actually an improvement over what had been even more awful.  I am a VERY poor swimmer so I spent alot of time on the left side of the road (caught almost a thousand folks on the bike) which was so much better than my training rides on those shoulders had been! The Keene descents are a bit crazy and for anyone that doesn't get a chance to preview the course can be a challenge, particularly as the crosswinds and sharp turns create their own issues. Still, I love 'em.

First loop (in the rain and with considerable bike traffic) I only hit 48.3 with a fastest one mile average pace of 38mph.
Second loop (dry pavement and traffic much more spread out) I topped out at 53.5 with a fastest one mile average pace of 40.8 mph.
Lotsa fun (since I didn't crash)!

Congrats to all finishers! I had a blast yet again up in LP and it was very nice meeting some of you!

It was a great day for racing and the weather was perfect. Cheering for you all was fun and having so many people to follow made the day go by rather fast. Our athletes did awesome having 5 finishing on the AG podium (2 kona slots) and the rest either posted PRs or fought back to finish on a tough day for them.

Now it is time to rest up, indulge a bit with your favorite foods and drinks and spend lots of time with your beloved ones!

So where's the usual excited discussion about who got into IMLP 2011?  Was it all sold out on site?  Did registration go online yesterday at all?  If so, how fast did it sell out?  Is it still open?  Can't find the usual thread of excited/scared folks who just got in, either online or on site.

2011 won't be for me - will plan on taking this year to get my health back gradually, and the next year to train hard.

Thanks Monty and any other BT'ers who came out at midnight to help get us in. My wife had some stomach issues at start of 2nd bike loop that worsened during run. (if she would have done the training plan I mapped out for her... crap any training for that matter... it could have made the day nicer) Cleared my watch during run and just timed mile by mile keeping close watch on what we needed to do. Yes, we cut it close...but what a rush to finish when we did. Hours off my PR but to help her through it and to be greeted at the end like that was alright.

"It's better to be DFL than DNF!"
Her IM career is over Laughing so next year I can go for a new PR when I take on my son!

You guys are probably all too fast, but did anyone see the crash around mile 105?  There was a girl down when I got there.  It appeared as if she might have been hit by a car.  Lots of people were helping or I would have stopped.  Can anyone confirm she is ok?  I think she was wearing blue/green.

IMLP 2011 sold out really fast but did get online.  I actually got in online and so did my friend. We'll both be doing this as our first IM.  We both literally logged on to register at noon and zero second. The processing was really slow and by the time I successfully finished the process at 12:26, the link to register no longer worked.  Not sure how finishing an ironman will feel (I sure hope that's what actually happens to me), but I felt like I accomplished something great just by successfully registering.

Got a reply on another forum.  Appears she lost control of her bike and went down right in front of a car.  Luckily they were able to stop and didn't hit her.  She suffered a concussion and had to pull out.  Thankfully she's ok!

Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread (which I miss btw!) but I have a really dumb question for everyone. This is something I noticed at 2008 and 2010. Why is the clock in the photo of your finish (which clearly shows you crossing the line or even past it) always one second faster than your official time? I know it doesn't mean anything, but I was really curious. Is the timing mat actually past the arch? The IM logo mat seemed to be both before and after the arch so not sure where they actually pick you up at. Not a big deal, but I need something post IM to talk about.
