So, assuming a person can conjur up between $500-$1,000 bucks or so for a great all around wheel (for a road bike), what wheel would be best for training and doing some B and C races.  This person would rent a nice pair of wheels for his A races once or twice a year, but generally would want a nice pair of durable wheels that perform well (could be used).  I've read some discussions on various sites and I know there will be disagreement from people on riding on some wheels all the time, but wanted to open up a thread to see what comes out.

I'm not going to throw out all of the names I've been looking into, because I want to see what comes out in discussion without be biasing/limiting the discussion to a couple of wheels.

Thanks all

I think Fulcrum wheels are some of the most bomb-proof out there. The Racing 3's or 5's would fit the bill nicely for you.

I raced the Racing 1's all the time and they were incredible. The 3's have the advantage (for training) of using spokes that aren't $40 apiece if you need to replace them... I never had to, but I dreaded the day I might.

Felt has a 40mm Al clincher that it sells, TTR2 for $599.  Comes on the B2/B2R bikes.

I've seen then sell on eBay for ~450, you'll also see the TTR3 on eBay at times that is on the lower B12/B16 bikes.  Not sure what the diff is between the TTR2 & 3 models.

Neuvation R28 Aero 4's ... with Ultegra cassette less than $500, and then you have a $500 head start on the Zipps. Great wheels. Not really aero, but with 28mm rim depth they are light for a bomb-proof rim. I ride 'em at 180 pounds (and started at 190 pounds) and have not had any trouble for almost 700 miles.

If you don't like 'em after a hundred miles, PM me and I'll make you a deal on 'em!
