I was thinking on heading up to do the sprint.  Anyone done this one. It looks like there are a lot of events going on.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm going up for the Sept. 20th one.  I've done a Somersault tri before and it was well organized but it was at a different location so can't really help... good luck!

I wish ... I wanted to do the HIM but we're back to school as of the 1st - so I have no travel time to get up there.  I've done several Somersault events and they have always been well organized and well run.

Please let us know how the race was - I'm planning on the HIM next year.

I was planning to do the half there as well, but an injury has me out for the season.  I have raced at the location before and it is a great course, especially if you like a flat bike course.  Il be planning on it next year.

This is one of the largest Tri events in Ottawa. I have done the Sprint Du for the last two years and I have found the event to be very well organized. My only negative comment would be that I find the bike racks a bit low which makes racking my Cervelo P2C a bit of a challenge.

The swim for all the Tri are in Mooney's Bay. Since I have only do the Du I cannot comment much on the swim but I understand that there is not a lot of current. The actual water conditions depends a bit on the whether it has rained in the days immediately preceding the event (rain degrades the water quality). Transition from the river to T1 is about 200m with a small up hill. Bike course is 7.5km out and back for a total of 15 km per lap. It is slightly downhill on the out lap. The run portion last year was a out and back (2.5km) on the east side of the Ottawa River. This had a couple of hills with the largest about 750 m from the beginning (and conversely just prior to the end) of the run. Finish is into the Terry Fox Athletic Stadium.

They have a map in Google (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&q=&hl=en&om=1&t=k&msa=0&msid=103893952078700028262.000001127226aba752302&ll=45.369891,-75.695726&spn=0.00557,0.010343&z=17) that you may want to review.

Hope this helps.

Well I finished the sprint and had alot of fun.  The water was calm for the swim (few weeds at the end).  The bike course was flat with decent sized U turns at each end.  As for the run  there is one hill and the rest of the run was on a nice trail through a park.  The thing that I didn't like was that after you get out of the water it's a bit of a run (200-300m) up hill to the transition area.  I will probably be doing this one again.

I really want to work on my cycling over the winter and crush this course.  It was really nice and flat.  Unlike the hills  and turns that I faced in Gravenhurst.
