Sunny
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 405/407
Age Group = Fat Tire
Age Group Rank = 15/16
Pre-race routine:

Did not sleep well, very restless.
Got up about 5:45 and ate an Energy Bar and some Bloks.
Picked up a McD Powerade on way to the race.

Setup normal, except put McD powerade in 2 water bottles 1/2 filled with water and ice.
Event warmup:

Walked some, got into a mental I'm racing mood. Was going to try to stay with the leaders in the last wave....
Swim
  • 11m 15s
  • 481 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got off my swim, when got into traffic and got kicked and hit others next to me. Drank too much lake. Wanted to just quit. Called for the lifeguard. Let me rest on the Jetski but not move, so I was able to continue on to finish the swim. Had difficulty breathing from this point forward.
What would you do differently?:

Started on the outside again and not tried to swim in the pack. Be a social triathlete and not a heavy competer at 5'9" 230 pounds.
Transition 1
  • 03m 34s
Comments:

Still breathing real shallow, difficult getting going. Tried to mount bike and ended up pulling it in a circle and taking out a cone and almost a volunteer. Bent seat to the right.
What would you do differently?:

STOP and relax.... Get head back on straight before trying to grab bike and get started.
Bike
  • 41m 7s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 7.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Tough breathing and got off to bad start. Stopped to fix seat and took off. McD powerade tasted terrible. Had trouble drinking it, so not enough liquids. AutoBIKE kept slipping gears and missing as I rode.
What would you do differently?:

Get new Bike...... Calm down before starting....
Transition 2
  • 03m 19s
Comments:

Still breathing shallow... Number belt clip let go, so had to restring with very shakey hands. Course director gave some bad directions to get out of transition. Change from last 2 races in same series. Got very upset and frustrated.
What would you do differently?:

Watch others, stay calm and just relax... I was not going to win the race...
Run
  • 00m
  • 1.93 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

DID NOT FINISH..... Could not drink water at first station, kept needing to spit it out to take a breath. Walked and got madder by the step, breathing shallow. Said good job to another runner she returned the words. Started me crying and hyperventalating, screamed and layed down because I could not catch my breath. 5 people quickly surrounded me and provided aid.
What would you do differently?:

Relax and just stop and look around to clear my head.
Post race
Warm down:

Laying on ground with EMTs trying to take readings. Walked some afterwards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Breathing...Too much emotions and not enough sleep.

Event comments:

Third in series and they changed the entire transition area. Caused confusion for me...

I am sorry you had such a tough time. I hope you keep on keepin on, though. I find the mental stuff is harder than the physical stuff and you had more than your share this time.
