Overall Rank = 257/539
Age Group = 35-39 F
Age Group Rank = 12/27
Pre-race routine:

I am sooo tired, and I thought I could sleep a little later than I usually do on a race morning. Race against the clock from the minute my feet hit the floor.

Event warmup:

Got to transition with just 4 minutes before it was set to close. I didn't realize they'd be closing transition at 745a...
I also forgot to get body marked. Oh well. I ran with my wet suit and goggle to the beach area to get ready to go with my wave.
Swim
  • 20m 24s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like I was having a good swim. It was hard to sight once I was on my way back. I couldn't quit tell where the end was. I figured I was close when I started to swim in the freaking jungle under the water.
There was a lot of unnecessary kicking, pushing, and crowding going on. I also don't understand why a person doing such a volumonous stroke as the breast stroke would be right smack in the middle of the crowd.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

T1 was a little longer than I anticipated. The entrance was on the opposite side of where I thought it would be.
Bike
  • 48m 15s
  • 15.53 miles
  • 19.31 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

I didn't have enough to drink on the bike come to think of it and it was getting very hot. I was dying for a drink!
Run
  • 27m 50s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

I was starting to get kind of tired- hot and I couldn't quench my thirst even though I drank. In fact I drank too much because I got a stitch.
What would you do differently?:

Just rinse my mouth with water to wet it and dump the rest on my very hot body.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of friendly familiar faces. Lots of fun.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My fat ass. I'd love to lose it!

Event comments:

Great race. They really do a good job. I'd recommend it.

Agreed on the swim leg, I felt like the swim leg was MUCH longer than 800 meters.  I was having my best swim ever and felt like it took forever to get back in.  That sun was hitting just right so I couldn't look up and see forward.  Plus, it did really bunch up a lot in the last 100 meters, I had a lot more contact then I'm used to.

West Point is always a fun race.  Great job on the bike leg - that's awesome - especially in view of that long slow uphill climb after we turned around.

And hear ya on the liquid - it got HUMID very fast!
