Who was Mickey Pfleger? If you recall he was the photograher who was knocked unconscious while taking pics during a 49ers/Chiefs game. He went into a seizure and was rushed to the ER where he recovered but discovered during tests that he had a very large brain tumor. He was operated on and went on to resume his career. He credited the Chiefs player who ran him over with saving his life. That was back in the day. Fast Forward.

Last week two childhood friends left home for college to play baseball and hopefully get an education. Being good athletes their training takes precedence so on their first night away from home they went to the batting cages to get in some swings. Chris, my son was hitting, while his friend Blake was throwing from behind the screen. Chris squared one up and it shot like a missile, careened off of a support and somehow caught Blake in his left eye. Blake went down and Chris rushed over to find him bleeding and in a lot of pain. After getting him to his car Chris called us to tell us what happened and that he was taking Blake to the ER.

3 hours and 3 stitches later they emerged from the ER. Blake had a black eye, a small cut but no broken facial bones and had not suffered a concussion. But because he had a CAT-scan the Drs had discovered a small growth on his thyroid and he was given a followup for this past Wednesday. Back to the dorm and new college life resumed.
Blake went for the followup and they biopsied the growth. His results came back today and he has thyroid cancer. They are scheduling retesting and surgery at MUSC next week. We are all praying for him and his family. Blake credits Chris with saving his life. I don't know about all that but as Blake said "had he not hit the ball so hard I'd never have known".

We never know the purpose but for now keep this kid in your prayers.

That is awesome. In this world I was waiting for the punch line of saying someone was suing you. Glad I was wrong.

Sounds like this are a couple of stand up kids. Prayers and thoughts are with the family.
