CANONBALL!!!

I was able to draft well on the 2 folks who passed me, but lost them at the wall each time.
What would you do differently?:

I kicked pretty hard the first 100m, I think that got my HR up really high and was having to breathe every 1-2 strokes (vs 4-5 strokes in training).
Transition 1
  • 03m 36s
Comments:

Long way to run in my bike shoes, bad rack position for how I transition. Jersey got twisted trying to get it on.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to leave the shoes on the bike for T1!
Bike

  • 16.59 mile/hr
Comments:

Hard to get my heart rate up w/o feeling abused. I felt my course speed was mostly above my training pace, though not as fast as I would've liked.
What would you do differently?:

push harder on downhills and flats instead of cruising more to recover.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Good transition. Drank some gatorade for a few seconds, had a bit of trouble getting my watch off my bike mount, previous folks racked their bikes poorly making it tough for me to get in my spot.
What would you do differently?:

Shove poorly racked bikes out of my way!

Comments:

Very tired on the run, tried to push interval run/speed walk, did not last long.
Post race
Warm down:

walked for 10 min, weighed myself, sipped water/gatorade, banana, granola bar...

Your cannonball was awesome Paul! Made us all laugh and not be so nervous for the start!

Wish I had seen the cannonball.

I agree with your statement about the shoes on the bike. I did that this year and added a tri top for the swim instead of messing with trying to put it on in transition and saved myself over a minute in T1 from last year. Definately look into it.

Great race!
