Pre-race routine:

Got up early (4 am), had yogurt, a waffle with PB, banana, OJ and my vitamins. Got everything ready, headed out at 4:45 for the hour long drive.
Event warmup:

Quick 5-10 min jog with some faster stuff to get the HR going. Dynamic stretching.

Comments:

7th in the water. Passed one kid, on the feet of the guy Ian that was ahead of me, he was on feet of kid in front of him.
What would you do differently?:

Enter a faster time so I don't have to deal with passing people.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

First time running with bike with shoes attached. Had to go kind of far, opposite end of transition. Did it with no practice. Didn't quite jump onto bike, but hopped on and got going. Little trouble getting left foot in with right hand (dumb, just a coordination thing, will get better with practice), but otherwise good.

Comments:

Actually kind of brutal, it really killed me. Worked pretty hard gettin up them, and quite slowly. Wind was pushing me with the Blackwells on the bike, so a little unstable at times. I had put my Garmin on the quick mount, and put the velcro wrist strap on the aerobar to put on during the ride. That proved more difficult than I thought, as the strap is just to short to easily keep in the loop and not have to hold together at a strange angle. Eventually got it though.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on hills!
Transition 2
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Might have gotten out of shoes a bit early? No big deal though. Did have trouble getting off bike...didn't get my right leg swung over. I need to work on that dismount. Almost fell over with bike. And shoe stuff on ground, so I ran the 15 feet with the bike, front wheel in the air. Oh well. Forgot to take Garmin off and put on wrist before, so took an extra couple of seconds to get it off the bike after racking.
What would you do differently?:

Remember to take Garmin off. Work on dismount.

Comments:

Took a few to get into a rhythm. Breathing was labored. Got out of transition with Steve Plamondon, but didn't know it was him until after the race. Overtook him almost immediately, didn't look back. Tried to catch Jerry Lewis, but couldn't quite reel him in. Might have had more in me the last .5 mile if I had dug very deeply...
Post race
Warm down:

Couple mile jog with a few of the guys. Had blisters on inside and outside of left foot, they were KILLING me. Just made them worse. Oh well.
