Swim
Comments: Good swim except my goggles filled up with water after rounding the first buoy. That is exactly the wrong place to be floating on your back and trying to drain/rearrange the googles. Was able to swim strong with no issues. Caught quite a few folks on the one lap. What would you do differently?: Nothing very satisfied with results given the small amount of swim training this summer Transition 1
Comments: I street modded my wetsuit and cut about 4 inches off the legs. No more suit stuck on ankles issues. Shirt is always hard to get on a wet body. Rode with socks although I thought about trying it out sockless. Bike
Comments: broken record I guess but my bike times are still stuck in neutral. The course was more challenging than I thought from viewing the elevations on map my run. I was expecting uphill for 8 miles and then slight downhill/flat for the remainder. I guess I did tie my PR (set on a flat course earlier in the year) on a hillier course. The top folks were at 22 ish with rare 23s. That is slower than on the flat courses so I guess I have closed some gaps. What would you do differently?: not much. I felt good riding and stayed comfortable with drinking and exertion. I just need to squeeze a little more speed in. Transition 2
Comments: The racks were kinda packed and my "spot" had disappeared when I returned. I used a little muscle and reclaimed my territory. Shoes on quick. What would you do differently?: nothing. This was the second race where the officials have told me "nice dismount". I feel good about that Run
Comments: Thats right-I won my age division run split. Hooray! Too bad the guys in front of me all biked faster. I got to pass many folks and only got passed by one guy. The run was cool and nice. The scenery was nice too. I didnt drink or eat anything on the run. I was a little thirsty but I didnt want to stop (I cant drink out of a cup ont he run-I lack the skillz). Felt good the whole way with a nice even pace. I did get outsprinted over the last 150m by a fellow I had caught earlier in the run. I just didnt dig enough. Overall it was very close to a PR (less than 40 seconds off) What would you do differently?: Nothing other than push just a bit at the end- a little pain never hurt no one. Post race
Warm down: eating potato chips and crispy apples What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing- it was a perfect day for racing. I did pretty well (compared to me) in all three aspects. If I could have gone 19.5 instead of 19.2 on the bike I would have taken 3rd. That is a little frustrating but I will live. Event comments: I liked the run course as it was scenic and did contain some shade (the weather was a little unseasonably cool so it wasnt needed but most August it would be welcome). The ride was challenging but fun on mostly good roads. The swim transition run is a little long and up a hill but as long as everyone has to do it fine by me. Last updated: 2009-08-22 12:00 AM

drove to race. Ate pbj and an apple and soy milk.
Able to run for about 5 minutes and found the mystical unused bathroom facility. Never have had the privacy of a 4 bathroom facility prior to a race.
Swam a bit to check out the water- it was wet
