Subject: Advice for snacks
I am a high school teacher so I obviously cant eat every couple of hours like I do in the summer time. I am looking for quick snack ideas that I can eat between classes and while students are working. I have a fridge in my classroom so I am able to store a few things up here at school if I need to.

Any ideas?

Yogurt
Applesauce
String cheese
Nuts
Granola bars (or healthier bars like Larabar or Kind bar)
Crackers and cheese/peanut butter/hummus
Fruit strips (like fruit roll ups but all natural)
Popcorn
Salad - a container like this will let you keep the dressing separate until you're ready. It even has a blue ice pack built in.
Pasta/rice/quinoa salads are all good cold
Chocolate soy milk (they sell individual servings)
Premade smoothie like Naked or Odwalla brand

There are already some great ideas here. I'd add sliced vegetables (cucumber, carrot, sweet pepper, etc.) with hummus or another vegetable dip. Lately I've been snacking on an herbed white bean dip* and a roasted red pepper and walnut spread. They're both great smeared on crostini and as a dip for grissini or sliced veggies.

* The quick-and-dirty version: drop a few cloves of garlic into the food processor with the motor running. Add a can or two of well rinsed and drained white beans, some sage leaves (or another herb--rosemary would work well), some olive oil, and a bit of salt and pepper to taste, and blend it all together. The more time consuming (and, I think, tastier) version involves cooking the beans yourself and sauteing the garlic and sage in some olive oil (or roasting the garlic, yum).

Wow that white bean hummus sounds really good! I'm going to try it. We have a rosemary bush in the garden so I have access to the fresh stuff! yummy.

All the above ones sound great.  I also like a piece of fresh fruit and some cottage cheese -- Breakstone makes single-serve containers of cottage cheese that come in 4-packs, like yogurt does.  Also plain lowfat Greek-style yogurt is delicious with both fruits and vegetables:  I like to stir in some berries and chopped almonds.

I just made a few batches of these homemade "larabars" the other day, pretty cheap if you buy your ingredients in bulk and just as good as the ones in the store. I think the cherry turn out the best. It really is satisfying for a sweet fix.

I've gotten hooked on the new 100-calorie Breyers yogurts with mix-ins. I never liked the mix-ins before because they were pretty high calorie. These are perfect, though, because they are just the right size (they dropped size, not ingredients to lower cals, so they taste great). Easy to eat quickly and without mess on papers, etc.

School teacher here as well. Snacks are:

Bananas, pears, apples, grapes, etc. Any fruit that does require refrigeration. Trail Mix, nuts, granola.

I eat every couple hours with no probs. If there is a change in schedule, I'll grab a banana or a pear for later.

The real lunch is teacher lunchroom ref.

I'm a high school teacher too and have the same thoughts now that summer is ending. Cut up veggies like carrots or celery that you can take a quick bite on between classes work for me... also Kashi bars, I like to take a few bites during passing time. Trail mix too. Plus, that is great that you have a fridge in your room! That means you can do yogurt too. Very nice. Last year I was lucky to have a prep period around 10 each day, so that would be when I ate a banana that would hold me over til lunch around 130ish typically. Still, being a teacher you have to be "on" all day- so I feel you on this one. Especially after having the luxury of more free time over the summer as a triathlete. Last year was first year teaching... how about you? How have you found balancing training with teaching?

Another teacher here!  This is year 21 for me; still can't believe that.  I don't have a fridge but use one of those insulated lunch bags.  Works OK.  In addition to the great ideas already mentioned, I keep a stash of food in my office.  Friday I went to the store to replenish for the start of school.  I got animal crackers, kashi crackers and rice cakes.  I'll probably get some PB to keep in my stash as well.  I also keep plastic ware and paper plates in my food bin.
