marmadaddy - 2009-09-01 9:44 AM I sooo wish I could do this race. We had a cottage on the bay growing up. Used to go to sleep to the sound of the roller coaster at Paragon Park.

I live about 4 miles from the old Paragon Park site.   I wish it was still there.

I'm getting stoked for this race. My fiancee can't do it because she has a commitment in her role as the BU Women Hockey athletic trainer, but I needed to get one more race in this season.

Plus, I've been trialing a suit for big clydesdales on behalf of wetsuitrentals.com. Tri Wetsuits don't come in my size, so I'm using an Akona Quantum Stretch suit. Technically it's a diving suit, but it's a 3mm suit, fits fairly tightly, and provides some buoyancy (not as much as their 5/3 suit, which provided too much buoyancy).

I wouldn't be too concerned about the ocean swimming.  I was a little intimidated when I did my first ocean swim, but its really not too much different.  Yes, it does require a little extra sighting, but its not really something to be worried about.

And yes, I'm doing and looking forward to the race.

I'm not really worried about it other than being in a suit for this race. that'll be new for a race, but its pretty easy to get on and off.

curlzrn - 2009-08-31 5:19 PM I have a blue seventy synergie...Love it!!  I planned to wait till next year to buy a wetsuit as this was my 1st year of triathlons but because of the cool summer and the fact 2 tris were in NH and vermont...I really needed it.
Anyone want to meet up for an ocean swim? I need the practice..let me know the when and where and I will try to make it.

Friday mornings in Nantasket?  At the actual beach?  I am planning on practicing the beach starts.  Run in from the beach, dive, dive again, dive again, swim, turn around, body surf in, run up the beach and do it again and again.  Come on, I need to someone to look silly with!

I can do friday morning this week.  Anyone else wanna come?  What time? I have been slacking a bit since my last tri.

Did you guys get the email about the not-for-profit no longer being a part of this race?  Sounds like a BIG falling out.

yeah I got that and whats funny is that was the most expensive tri out of the four I have signed up for, and I figured because it was a charitable event. sounds like someone wants to just get rich, seems kinda scketchy.

The original web site is  down, but it looks like the race goes on.
The proceeds are now to help Hull HS sports.

sorry I didnt check the thread until 9 I headed over there but didnt get to the beach untill 1030 I had even brought my bike. I saw no one was in the water, not to mention how windy and rough it was I think the paint on my bike got sand blasted off. And the guy actually wanted to charge me 7 dollars to park so needless to say I left I was not gonna swim in that rough water solo and my bikes so light I probably would have been blown over trying to ride the course. Did any one end up swimming?

I had car issues... Maybe we can set up something a week ahead of time and hopefully we get it to work out, depending if the weather cooperates.  Does anyone want to plan a trip for next weekend?

yeah I am willing to do that. I cant do saturday because I have a mini tri Hale in westwood at 9 am so I never do anything the day before. Its only a mini tri though so I don't mind swimming after. I figure I'll be done well within an hour even though its an off road event and guessing awards to be done by noon so any time after that sunday. Other wise Im pretty much free thoughout the week I do hvac contracting and its getting to cold for ac but not warm enough for heat so I usually end up with a lot of free time this month lol. Thats why Im doing 3 sprint tris this month and am going to fit in as many road races as I can.

I went this AM and the sea was really ruff.  I plowed in anyway doing swim starts and then letting the surf take me back, then did it all over again.   Other than a couple of kids playing in the surf, I was the only one out there swimming.  There were a couple of Kite boarders though - really cool to watch.   Only got to ride 1/2 the route because I was with a non-tri friend and 10 miles was too much for her.   But I drove the rest of the route.  Beach Ave has soft sand on the right side of the road...there are a couple of small hills (one slightly sustained) but the course is mostly flat.   It's out to the high school at the end of the pennisula and back.

When I got there at 9:30 there was plenty of beach to run on but  by 1PM the tide had come up to the sea wall.   I thought they timed this for low tide?

I'll be heading back Tuesday  early afternoon.  I have Physical Therapy for my archilles in the morning but I should be there by 12:30 - ish.   I did pay the $7 to park for the day, next to the bathhouse.  However there is roadside parking on Hull Shore Drive Extension maybe 1/2 mile past the bathhouse.

If anyone wants to join me let me know and we'll exchange phone numbers
