Total Time = 1h 29m 21s
Overall Rank = 188/320
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 24/28
Pre-race routine:

Misunderstood the night-before plans with my wife and ended up not eating anything except a slice of Key Lime Pie. Got 4hrs. sleep and had to stop twice on the way there -- left at 4:45 and got a muffin and coffee.
Event warmup:

Swam a little to acclimate to water
Swim
  • 13m 32s
  • 400 meters
  • 03m 23s / 100 meters
Comments:

Have you ever seen a current that runs both directions? I have never seen a current like this one. Swim is not my strong suit, so I am just happy I finished it.

Time include a run that seemed like forever to T1 through the sand

This was my first open water swim
What would you do differently?:

Try to relax and get in a good rhythem
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

I need to get a tri-suit, as I have an aversion to running without a shirt, which eats up time.

Overall, I could speed things up
Bike
  • 44m 32s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 16.71 mile/hr
Comments:

The ride was really nice until that darned hill. Not too bad, though. hit 38MPH on the way down, then, BAM, had to turn around and do the hill again.

On the way down, I could not get my chain on top ring. Fought it for too long and finally got it.

Concentrated on drinking correctly.
GU once about 25mins into it.
What would you do differently?:

Eat additional GU about 5mins from end
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Seemed ok -- They seemed to have a timing issue
Run
  • 28m 49s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 46s  min/km
Comments:

I could really feel the effects of not eating at about mile 1.5. Needed a GU, but did not have one.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and eat

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pre-race meal
1 GU Shy
Not enought swimming practice

Event comments:

Really nice race. The only thing I have consistantly noticed on the Multirace.com events (I have competed in a few and watched a few, but I HAVE NOT competed or watched any others, so this may be normal) is that there always seems to be course confusion on laps. The lady running in with me (If you were wearing a BIKER CHICK tri suit and telling some guy not to let a CHICK beat you, thanks) almost missed the turn for the finish (would have started lap 2 of olympic).

They did have volunteers yelling about the laps, but it is confusing when you are competing -- the signs should be more concise like (SPRINT 1 lap) not just pointing to a finish.

Overall, that is just being picky -- this was a great race.
