Pre-race routine:

Saturday - Drove to Albuquerque, attended an in-laws college graduation, picked up race packets, took the Mrs. shopping, checked into my free hotel room from Expedia (see rants in my last Tri report,)tried sleeping.

Sunday - Felt the wind and cold...wondered if winter was coming back to the Duke City. Ate pancakes, listened to a few cuts from the new Moby CD while driving to the race sight, set up transition, got marked...
Event warmup:

light jog, followed by stretching, quick spin on the bike, more stretching...starting to feel warmer.

(Last Event)

Pool swim. I passed none and was passed by many. The Mrs. commented (with a big smile) "we need to work on your swimming."
What would you do differently?:

I suppose I COULD go to the pool a little more often....however my swim time was still about a minute faster than previous year.

Bike to swim

What would you do differently?:

Take of sunglasses before leaving the transition area. I didn't want to lose a new pair and ran them back to my bike.

Comments:

Was slowed some by strong winds, but still did most of my passing going uphill into the wind. Legs were cramping at the end of segment. Bike split was about 2.5 minutes faster than previous year.
What would you do differently?:

Dunno...switch from red tires to blue maybe?

Run to Bike

Did the run section with dew rag and cycling gloves on. Changed shoes, put helmet on, ran with bike...

Run-Bike-Swim
(First event)

Mass start. Mostly flat open space. It felt like I was getting passed a lot, but it sounds like I finished towards the middle of the pack. Was feeling thirsty, but would have lost time at the water table...not enough volunteers. Side was starting to ache during the last 3/4mile (the pancakes maybe?)
Only shaved 18 seconds from previous years time.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching, a shower, and a cold bath after getting home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I've been sick a lot this year, and while my times have been faster, I'm curious how they'd be if I was at 100%.

Haven't logged as many training hours...local pool was closed after it didn't meet ADA requirements, I've had extra assignments at work, and the Mrs. had emergency surgery.

Event comments:

I didn't trip in the run, fall off the bike, or drown in the pool. I also took more than six minutes off last year's time. Even caught a glimpse of myself on the evening news. Overall, a great race.

Only one downer...

The Mrs.had to sit this one out due to emergency surgery a couple of weeks ago. She still came out to watch and is itching to get training again.

Congatulations. I know you weren't 100%, but you finished and with a new PR. Hope the Mrs. is alright. I know first hand what it does to a person to watch a spouse rushed into surgery. It can mess you up mentally and physically. Great job!
