Subject: RE: presta questionPlastic cap: worthless once out of the box. Metal ring: helpful for inflating a very under-inflated or new tube, especially with a short stem, but not necessary. Small screw on the valve: prevents air from leaking if you accidentally hit the valve end-on. It's good practice to keep this closed, but I've certainly known people that never close it, and never have an issue. I've forgotten it many times, and never had a problem. If you use valve extenders, you don't use this screw anyway. Short answer: as long as the air is currently staying in the tube, then you're fine. |
