I decided to opt out of the Wise Tri and do this one instead. Who else is doing the oly for this event?

signed up last week....my first tri experience.  I would like to know more about transisitons if anybody knows.....ive watched the videos on this site but i cant imagine it being like the vids.  for example, how far from the water to the bike?  do you have to run your bike to a certain point before you get on?  how early should we be there?  Any other tips would be great.

I'm in for the oly.

With the sprint state championship and the new collegiate division it should be one hell of a race.

T1 is looong.  You have to run from the boat ramp, up and down a wet grassy hill, through the tennis courts and into the parking lot.  It's probably 1 or 2 tenths of a mile.  And like any tri, you have to cross the designated mount line before you can get on your bike.

I'm doing a transition clinic the day before.  You'd get a lot out of it if you can make it.

What, they didn't just make it a steeplechase?

And lets not forget, out of T1 hill - oh ya out of T2 yup hill - under Ridge hill of witch you go under 4X. I would highly recommend that you run the course if its your first time, just to know what to expect. Last year I heard a girl say not another hill,I didn't have the hart to tell her that she just started.

Is it really that bad?!?!  The hill out of T1--are we talking people have trouble gettin shoes on if you leave them on the bike kinda hill?  Should i run with my shoes on and clip in after the mount line?

I debated that last year & chose to run with shoes & do a flying mount than clip in. I did pass some that where riding up the hill with there feet on there shoes,I just couldn't do a hill that way. If you can get your feet in your shoes from the mount line to the exit on Virginia you'll be OK.

I ran with shoes also last year and seemed to pass a couple people before the hill.

Water temp is right on the bubble right now...  Today's aquathlon was 1 degree over wetsuit temps according to the RD...

In response to the T area- this probably is one of the strangest T areas I've seen from swim to run.  Out of the water you run up a big hill, then around some tennis courts into the T area.  Probably 250 yards total.  After that it's all good- just walk your bike to the mount/dismount area and you are good to go-maybe 30 yards.  To set up- some folks like to be there early.  I'm there probably there 15 minutes before the T closes because I like to sleep and can't stand hanging around the race area with nothing to do. All about personal preference.

I'd like to do the sprint, but $80 is too expensive for me. I would sign up earlier and thus get the cheaper rate, but I work in emergency management and have been burned too many times with signing up early and having to eat the cost. Have fun racing.

I am, if for no other reason than to have a race in one before the US Open in two weeks...
