Hartsville, South Carolina
United States
Set Up, Inc.
Total Time = 1h 15m 38s
Overall Rank = 11/89
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 2/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15 and made the quick drive to Hartsville. Ate half a bagel and half a banana.
Event warmup:

6 minutes of jogging and a really short swim.
Swim
  • 08m 9s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went WAY too wide. I actually wondered why I was in first. Then I realized that I was just way too far outside. After the first buoy (which was only 150 out) I had a good swim the remainder of the way.
What would you do differently?:

Not be retarded.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Not a bad T1. I think it includes a rather lengthy run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Dunno.
Bike
  • 45m 9s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I did well...for me. Unfortunately that just isn't good enough. I HAVE to get better at this. It was a hilly course which I'm no good at anyway, and biking is my weakest leg by far. I rode a smart race on the bike though, knowing that if I muscled up I'd be gone for the run. I held back and got through with a decent split...again, for me.
What would you do differently?:

TITS. Gotta have more/harder TITS. I WILL get good at this.
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

I pushed my bike under the rack somehow...not too much time lost, but a dumb mistake. Pretty fast T2 other than that.
Run
  • 20m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy to be off the bike, and went right to work. I passed 2 people right off the bat and then continued to reel people in. Didn't get passed at all and probably made up 10 positions. REALLY happy with the run. 4th fastest of the day!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Come to think of it, I didn't even consider doing one. Weird. Drank some pepsi and had a bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just gotta put more miles on the bike. Its coming...

Event comments:

This is my best placing overall ever in a tri. I have to be happy, and I am. Especially with the run! And really, my swim was pretty good too. The biking still hurts to think about. If I rode the average time of the people surrounding me I'd have been 5th or so. I'm confident I can drop the time though. Press on!

Awesome job! It astounds (and mildly disgusts) me, the things you can do and then say it's not quite good enough. You should pick a race in Cali, so I can come and cheer

Nice race Steve.  Maybe the BT'ers will have a little get together and Augusta and we can all put faces with names!  If not, good luck with IMFL!

Nice race!  Swim time looks pretty darned good to me, despite going wide.  Congrats.

I'd be up for one.  I assume somebody will organize one shortly...
