Subject: fuel belt or just race number belt?
I'm a couple of weeks away from my first tri and I don't have either a fuel belt or a race number belt.
when I run at home I just take a drink before I run and after, at the gym I use the cup holder on the tread mill for a bike bottle.

Is a fuel belt worth $30 - 40?  (my wife is keeping an eye on just how much this triatlon malarky costs!)
As I don't have a race number belt either I was just planning on pinning the number to my shirt from the start, inside my wetsuit, is a race belt realy necessary?
I know race belts are only a few $$ but It seems like just another think for me to forget in t2

I guess a fuel belt with tabs for a race number would be ideal, but most (internet search only, not been to a shop) don't seem to have the number tab thingys.

what do you guys use?

Neither is necessary, but I find a race belt nice to have. That way I don't have to wear my number on the swim or bike (most races don't require it). No problems in T2 as all I do is slip on my running shoes, grab the race belt and go, putting it on as I run.

I wear a fuel belt when I run longer than 10 miles, but never in the race. Even my bare bones races have adequate hydration on the course.

I use a race belt, I spent too much money on my tri suit to be putting pin holes in them. I have friends who use the fuel belts but they just seem like a bother to me, I've seen the bottles pop out during runs.
I put my race belt in my helmet at transition and then when I get out of the water I put it on with the number in the back, and ride off, and then when I go to the run I just turn the belt around so the number is on the front.

I just have a race belt and I am fine with it.  I just use whatever they offer at the aid stations for nutrition.  No need to take any along.

If you know you HAVE to carry you own nutrition, then I can see the point.  But I have dropped a lot of money in just about every other aspect of this sport (several bikes, race wheels, aero helmet, etc)  But I STILL have not felt strongly enough to get a fuel belt.

I figure I might win one in a race or raffle someday...

I've had a race belt since the beginning and really like it.  However, I've been contemplating getting one with bottles since I hate slowing down at aid stations and then spilling the water/gatorade all over myself instead of actually drinking it.  I also like the idea of having something to drink when I want it instead of waiting until the next station.  Decisions, decisions......
