Pre-race routine:

woke up at 5am, stretched and enjoyed a small cup of coffee with a power bar. Took my vitamins and an extra B.
Event warmup:

ran a little, and lots of stretching.
Swim
  • 09m 58s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

the first wave of men went out only 2 min in front. As I started catching the slower men it was difficult to pass, they really kick hard and alot of them were doing breast stroke and you really had to be carefull not to get kicked in the face. The water was merky due to the bad weather conditions. I was happy with my swim overall, I was 2 min faster than my 1st tri.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

it was pouring rain, but the transtion went really smooth for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 42m 15s
  • 11.1 miles
  • 15.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to get clipless, I know I can go faster with those. My running shoes got so wet during the bike course they they kept squeking on the peddles. The road was terribly slippery and wet, some of the puddles were very deep, this caused me to keep the pace slower than I had planned.
What would you do differently?:

I need clipless shoes, areo bars, but because the road was so slippery I had to really slow down at the turns!
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

o dear, my legs just hate this transition so much!
What would you do differently?:

nothing,
Run
  • 33m 33s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Try to PUSH harder. I have so much work to do on my run!
Post race
Warm down:

walking and drinking sports drink and water, stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

rain, wet shoes rubbing on my skin and making blisters. Legs feeling terrible after the bike-run.

Event comments:

I guess I need to practice training in the rain, it makes things so different. The scoring was a little confusing, they had everyone marked together, no seperate woman`s list or age lists. You just had to sit there and work it out for yourself.
But, the Marines did a brilliant job with all the work in preparing and cleaning up. Plus all the supportive comments they gave during the race. Good bunch of people our Marines!

Course: LONG! It was really wet, and the rain was pouring down. We went off road onto a slippery muddy hill(mountain). Then we went through a curvy course and then went up another nasty hill. The run home was fairly flat but it seemed like the finish line was just SO far away. I found that if you can see the finish it makes it harder for some reason.

Great job your your second Tri in difficult weather!!

Just think how much you have improved and will continue to improve with all your training.

It is nice to catch people on the swim...but sounds bit difficult to get clear way to pass the slower men.

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your report. Clipless pedals are great..and I love my clip on aerobars not for speed but it helps keep my hands and shoulder feeling good..plus I think it is fun to ride in them.
