I just finished my 2nd triathlon, The Fort Collins Club Triathlon
(Fort Collins, CO
). Here's a side-by-side comparison of my results with those of my first triathlon back in May.
Edit: Trishie gave me a cleaner table that I swiped and put in here. My original is at the bottom.
swim pace: 2.95 min/ 100 to 2 min/100
bike pace: 18.4 mph to 19.9 mph
run pace: 9:27/ mile to 8:02/ mile
Overall time: 1:27:31 to 1:18:26
Lessons learned:
1
) TAKE A BEGINNING MASTER'S SWIM CLASS!!!! It has been said a thousand times for all those people struggling with the swim, but from May 31st to September 20th, I saw a 25% improvement in my swim. 25%!!!
2
) Training for a bike century has great benefits for not only the bike, but also the run. I followed a Gale Bernhardt program and rode 2 century rides this summer
(July 25th and Aug 3rd
). I didn't have a lot of run training, but it seems obvious to me that the bike training had a major halo effect on the run.
3
) Following a training program dedicatedly will pay off.
4
) I love this stuff.
