Sunny
Total Time = 2h 50m 13s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-40
Age Group Rank = 95/165
Pre-race routine:

I ate some pop tarts, check my gear to make sure everything was in order, talk to my fellow racers.
Event warmup:

no warm up, you can't get your bike out of T1/T2, and they would not let you enter the water until about 5-6 mins before your wave.
Swim
  • 28m 47s
  • 1650 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

i had a tough time getting into my groove. I had a lot of nervous energy throughout the entire swim, and i could not settle myself down.
What would you do differently?:

get some more open water swims.
Transition 1
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

wasn't a great T1, first race of the season, haven't got my routine down as of yet.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 58s
  • 25 miles
  • 18.30 mile/hr
Comments:

i was hoping to do better on this course, i think i underestimated this course. i put in the same this year as i did last year, so i don't know if that's good or bad. I though when i got off the bike i had a worse time then i did.
What would you do differently?:

need to add more hill training.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

nothing fancy here, could have been faster, but who couldn't...
Run
  • 54m 19s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Well the run is with out a doubt my worse leg of the triathlon. This off season i have been focused on trying to improve my run, now i know i am not going to pump out a 7 min mile or anything during a race, but every little bit helps. This year i improved my run time my 6 mins!!! How great is that?? This first 2 miles i didn't feel great, around mile 3 i felt much better after a long up hill, the course flatned out a little bit and i was able to pick up my pace, and i carried this comfortable pace to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

i can't say i would do anything different, other than try to run faster, i am so happy with my run time...
Post race
Warm down:

took part in the post race activities..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had a bad swim and bike..

Event comments:

the day before the race i did a pre ride and got a flat about 2 miles from the transation, as i started to walk back, a fellow triathlete and his wife, pulled over and drove me back to the transation area. His name was Mike and he was from VA. I can't thank him enough.

Awesome job! I was there watching the at the finish line. It was inspiring to see everyone coming across the line. Next year, people will be watching me!

Great race John!

I enjoyed the bike--but of course I didn't have to worry about that run.   And that's awesome that you shaved that much time off of your run on a very tough course.

John, I had you by 25 seconds coming out of T2, but you beat me by 30!  Great day for a triathlon wasn't it?

Congratulations on your improvement over last year!!

Hey John congrats on a good race.  Always nice to see an improvement from last year.  You should be proud of that.  Remember, these races are really training workouts leading up to the big race.  Keep up the great work.
