Subject: Finished First Tri!!! On to another?
Finished my first tri (300yd swim/ 10 mi bike / 2 mi run) in 1:08:24.  Felt pretty good, pushed hard on the bike, and the run was tough, but still at a decent pace for me (which is slow).  Was middle of the pack for this tri.  Swim was good (very choppy) but hard, Bike felt good (pushed hard), run went okay (did run/walk) but quad cramped up, probably because of pushing hard on the bike and should have taken in more fluid on the bike.

Should I sign up for another that takes place in two weeks?  It's a 600yd swim/ 18 mile bike / 3.1 mile run.  Would probably be more BOP for this one....   Should I continue training the next 2 weeks and do another?

The other option is to take it to the offseason and build for next year.

Thanks to all the BT's for the help.  All the good information and support here helped very much in preparation to complete my first tri.

Congrats!!!  I'd go for it if you can do the swim and bike distances.  Then you can run/walk the run as needed.  It will be fun and a great training day for you to start your building to next season!

Great job on your first tri!! I think its a good idea for you to get another event under your belt. Now that you have something to base your performance off of and what to expect from yourself. Maybe go a little easier on the bike and allow a little more on the run. Plus, the small increase in distance will provide a little extra challenge.

I kinda doubt that you need more water though. How much did you take on your last race? Unless its hot, i only take about 12 oz. I have a full 22 oz waterbottle on my bike, but drink a little more than half of that. Did you take any nutrition? Gels or drink w calories?

I ate a bagel w/ peanut butter, bananna and coffee for breakfast, and drank some water.  I had a gel 20 min before start, and drank some water.

I had about 12 oz water on the bike.  That was about it, except a couple of sips on the course.  My quads never really cramp, it's usually my calves.  Didn't know if i should take in more electrolytes through fluid, or hydrate better 1-3 days before the race.  Or I just pushed too hard on the bike overall, but I was happy with my time/avg mph.  I didn't wear the HRM, so didn't get any data that way.
