Very new to all this and doing my first spring tri in 10 days... Was is the rule (or is there one) on where an MP3 player during the bike/run.  I tend to train with one and was planning on wearing mine during the race.  Is this a no go?  Thanks

They're prohibited in all USAT races and most of the non-USAT races.  They're generally not a good idea because you have quite a few people on the course and the risk of collisions if you can't hear someone coming up on you is high.  On the bright side, you'll probably be so darn excited by the race itself that you won't even miss it.

BIG NO GO. If you want to use it while you're setting up your Transition area in order to "get in the zone" NO PROBLEM.  But racing with it is against the rules and just not a good idea as far as safety to other participants. You need to be aware on the course.

Thanks for the heads up (and the prompt response)!  I just hope my tie-dye swim cap isn't against the rules too Wink

I have not done a race that did not give different colored swim caps for different waves. Have yet to see a "tie dye" wave.

It's the "DOOOOOOOOD... like I guess we should swim now?" wave...
or the
"man these big triangular buoys look like big dorritos.. and they've giving me the munchies" wave..

Reguardless of the rules, it's just rude IMO.  Listen to what is going on around you - the spectators will be cheering, the aid station volunteers will be talking to you and the other races will be encouraging you.  You can't hear all of this with headphones one.  MP3 players are great for those lonely solo runs/rides/swims but I never use mine when I'm running/biking with other people.

X2.

A big portion of the fun for me is the people cheering you on and the announcement of your name as you cross the finish line.

mosdef against USAT rules...read the race materials and look for specifics on MP3 player policies...

in all honesty, i've used mine during races on the run a few times (w/ no problems)...NEVER and I mean NEVER on the bike (way too dangerous given the amount of passing and people etc...)...
