Total Time = 1h 08m 22s
Overall Rank = 28/744
Age Group = Relay
Age Group Rank = 1/14
Pre-race routine:

This report is for Team Invesco, not just me.
Event warmup:

Walked down to the swim start and swam about 50 yards before having to get out of the water.
Swim
  • 07m 6s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

I intended to start right in the front but was not aggressive enough. I spent the first 200 yards pushing through a ton of guys. With about 100 yards to go I almost ran into a boat which had pulled into the swim lane to pick up a struggling swimmer. There was about a 50 yard uphill run to the timing mat.

The relay swimmers started with their age groups.
What would you do differently?:

I am a pretty fast swimmer. I need to start in the front of the pack.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

T1 includes a massive hill that we had to run up. I ran about half of it. the wetsuit restricted my breathing a little on the hill.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was the second fastest T1 among relays.
Bike
  • 32m 6s
  • 13 miles
  • 24.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Don CRUSHED the bike. I applaud myself for picking out such a fast cyclist for the team.
What would you do differently?:

Are you kidding me? Don killed it.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

I had a little trouble getting the chip off of Don's leg but it was otherwise good. 3rd fastest T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 26m 26s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Anna was a last minute fill-in and she did great! Since our relay team started out in wave 3, long before any of the women's waves, Anna was the first woman to cross the finish line by a mile. People were amazed that she finished so soon.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Anna did great.
Post race
Event comments:

This was a fun race. I went for a quick dip in the lake and then sat back while my teammates won the race for us.

Hey great relay race.  I'm thinking I was racked right next to you guys (#260) cause I remember passing Anna near the 1.5 turnaround plus it may have been you that I got a little close to when racking my bike in T-2 getting ready to take off for the (I didn't mean to be rude - if I was, sorry, not intentional - just winded).

If I recall, your biker was pretty confident before the race that he was going to crush the course, which he did, sweet!

Fun race but you a correct with that wave start, about 130-150 guys age 35-39 swimming 120 yards before the hard right hand turn was a real bottleneck.  I started way to the left outside and never ran into an issue until I experienced a header into a canoe.  But I'd still rather have them there for safety, even if they end up in the swim lane and let us swim around them.....guess I just need to sight a little more frequently.

Yep, that was us.  And I should have been the one staying out of your way.  Don biking so fast is going to make it hard for me to rag on him for not hitting a 26mph average like he said he would.

I have no problem with the boats being there.  I was just glad that the guy ended up finishing the swim.
