I was watching rerun of 2007 Kona this afternoon. They were showing Macca on the bike and my 3.5 year old daughter pointed at screen and said, "Daddy, is that you?"If she only knew...

I was watching the race in Kona last weekend and my four year old son said, "Why aren't you in that race?" Ouch.

They were showing 2005 on Universal Sports last night and my 3 year old starts yelling:  Papa, papa!  You were there.  WE were there!

(they came to my one and only Tri this year......in Columbus, IN!)

I dvr'd it off of universal sports, which I've decided is the greatest channel for triathletes.

I'm doing a duathlon tomorrow, but this morning on the way in to my almost 5 year old's swim lessons she wanted to run and "race" me to the door. We get to the door and she says to me "Gee Mom, you're going to have to run faster than that if you are going to win the race tomorrow. I beat you and I'm little!" If only she knew how many people were going to beat me tomorrow... big and little...

Went for a run today pushing my 3.5 yr old in the jogger with my speedy, always-racing 5.5 yr old on his bike. The 5.5 yr old yells back to me "cummon daddy, don't jog, RUN!". Sheesh, cut me some slack :-) Had me chuckling for the rest of the way home.

After I finished my HIM in July, I sent my wife and son (5yo) back to the hotel a few blocks away while I went to gather up my stuff from transition. I was exhausted, sweaty, salt-encrusted, trudging along carrying a bunch of plastic bags full of crap, with my my wetsuit over my shoulder, and pushing my bike along in front of me when I spotted them about a block away from the hotel. My son looks back and sees me and yells out, "Hurry up, Dad!"

Why, I oughta...

I love the way kids think about their parents' racing.

I did my first triathlon in 18 years this past June and had both of my boys with me (4 and 5 yo).  My kids really got into it and we had a blast.

After the race while we were eating with some of the other participants, the 4 yo says "Daddy, I'm going to be way faster than you when I get old."   Gee, thanks little buddy!

When my daughter was about 18 months old, I ran to her daycare to pick her up in the jogging stroller. On the way home I stopped to walk and she says "more fast daddy." I replied that I was tired so she yells "MORE FAST DADDY." Can't argue with that.

Non tri related, the other day we were waiting at a light to turn left. there was traffic so even though it was green I had to wait. Izzy will be 3 in a month and she already knows that green means go. She kept telling me that I needed to go. I said I can't, I have to wait and her response was "But it's green." I'm pretty sure if she wasn't in her car seat that her hand would have been on her hip while she said it.

My daughter is six and has come out with a couple of doozies that make me blush/laugh/blush:

First tri - waiting in my wetsuit for them to announce my wave:
D: Mama how come everyone else has a little black bracelet on their ankle except for you?
Mama:  Shoot!! !$%*@*

In the car on the way to second tri:
Mama: My stomach is in knots and I feel like I'm going to throw up.
D: You could just not do it Mum.  But then you'd be a quitter!

Second tri pre-swim - Daughter cups my face between her hands and looks deeply:
D: I was hoping I'd find an eyelash so I could make a wish for you because I think you are gonna need it.

First longer sprint I roll into the bike dismount while she yells loudly:
D: You took forever Mum but I still love you!!!
And the crowd laughs... BLUSH!!  Embarassed

I was on a 6 mile run while my son was riding his bike with me.  I was impressed that he was doing the ride so I threw him some encouragement.  I said, "this is a pretty long ride, huh?"  He said, "yeah I'm getting tired."  I replied, "you, imagine running this route!"  He turned around and said, "you aren't running, you are just jogging."  WTF?
