Subject: RE: Best wheels for big guy? I have a set of 808s and they do catch the wind a little, but the concerns are for those "Ponies" 150 lb racers. If you are comfortable on your bike, I wouldn't worry too much. A gal, with whom I train, used them in a race with a fair amount of wind and did not have any issues. As for cost, Zipps are spendy, and it will be difficult to find a set in your budget. I also looked at HED 6 or 9s and they too are spendy. You might want to check a local bike shop that carries either and ask if they have blemish sets. My local shop was selling 808s for $1650. I have not seen many of the Clydesdale series selling for anything but suggested retail price, and at your stated weight I would get Zipp Clyd or HED Stallion. As for other wheel sets, I have little experience with them and would ask others to comment. |
