The race started with an uphill into the wind (seriously), and the first mile was not as quick as I would have hoped (6:02). By mile 1 I was 4th, but far behind the lead group of three high school kids. I was passed by a guy in the second mile, who I was sure was my same age group, and I have to admit that took some of my mojo. The second mile was also against a stiff headwind, and mile 2 was about 6:30. Pushed fairly hard in the last mile, since there was a guy gaining on me, who I dropped as I pushed hard in the last stretch to try to break 19 minutes. The last 1.1 mile stretch was 6:40.

Meh. Not thrilled about this - I ran 19:07 at a 5k two months ago, and since then have been running more consistently, so this time was disappointing. It was very windy, and I wasn't feeling great this morning, so maybe it just wasn't my day. I'm going to see if I can't do better at the Thanksgiving 5k (which is on the same course).
