Subject: Tracking mileage on custom orthotics?
Just curious, anyone with custom orthotics track the mileage they've run on them?  For those who do, what is the mileage you've reached before overhaul and/or replacement?  And I know there are variables like full custom/partial custom, body types, pronation/underpronation etc., I'm just asking the question in generalities....

Mine are full custom, and I've probably put several thousand miles them.  They are approximately two or two and a half years old and are in need of some work now.  They're worth every cent, just curious what others have found with theirs.

I have carbon fiber ones that probably have 10,000+ miles on them.

I've had 3 pair since 1999. I just got the 3rd pair because my Dr. and I wanted to fix some movement issues. Otherwise I would still be using my second pair. Now granted I don't have as much mileage as you but when I started 2 seasons ago I was weighing in at over 230.

i have 6 pairs of orthotics.... a combination of half, full length, semi to full orthothics, wt. bearing to non wt. bearing cast orthothic...  that have all lasted a long time.  but i only run in my hard rigid half length orthotic (ie. hard plastic) with neutral running shoe.  in my everyday dress shoe for work, i wear my full length dynamic orthotic (foot levelers).  regardless, i've had tons of miles my orthotics.  i've had my foot levelers since 1997.  but i again i don't like to run in my foot levelers.. and i don't like my hard rigid orthotic in my work shoes.

UPDATE:  I spent $58 to have the forefoot padding enhanced, as well as a support piece built into the space where the arch meets the toes (not sure how to describe that area other than forefoot).

Anyway, I absolutely am convinced that I'm running with 95% less pain because of the orthotics.  I'm an ex-football player/weight lifter who gauged everything by the level of pain I was in.  After years of foot issues I finally got orthotics and realized most of the pain in my feet I shouldn't have been feeling.....Dumb I know...

SO, if anyone is questioning whether the cost of full custom orthotics is a good use of your money, I'll just say this, determine what level of pain you want to have and put a price on that.....

This is interesting.  I was trying to run in my foot levelers and after five miles or so they just started hurting....I just got hard orthodics and am breaking them in so I can run in them in about a month or so.  What did you do to get used to the hard ones so you were able to run?  And how long did it take?

I don't track the miles. When the neoprene wears out, I take them in to be recovered... if the cork starts to deteriorate, I have them redone.
