Just signed up for the Tinman in Tupper Lake.  Am trying not to freak out as this will be my first HIM.  I'm already a month into the beginner half-Ironman plan, so I know there's plenty of time for training, even with the occasional missed workout or even week, but it's still scary having made the actual commitment.

Anyone else going to be there?

Congrates.   You are going to do great.  Make sure you learn to run in the heat.

Thanks!  Ugh, I HATE running in the heat.  However, I only live two towns away, so whatever weather they have, I will have already been training in.  (We actually had a cold, wet summer this year.)

I'm going. This will be my first HIM as well. Really exciting. I'm using it to get ready for the Lake Placid IM.

Awesome!! I see your from LP. That's one of my favorite places in the world. I am organizationally from Boonville NY about 35 min south of Old Forge. I try to get up there a couple of time a year to climb some high peaks or for the marathon. Have you always lived there?

Nice!  I was in Old Forge in September - I did the 90-miler with my boyfriend.  And no - I moved up from Boston about 3.5 years ago.  My family lived in the area at the time.  They've moved away, but I love it here!

Hey Tupper people let's get this thread going....by my hazy hungover calculations we are about five weeks away from race day....how is everyone's training going?

race day weather predictions?

rain
lightning
snow
sun
high heat
(all the above since it's the adirondacks)

Yes fast approaching now! I live In Tupper Lake I've done the 56 mile course a few times now and still trying to manage cramps/fatigue 6-8 miles from finish I really feel the bike, legs cramp soo i need to work that out. Swim is on par with last year not any faster but able to breathe bilateral so I"m coming out of the water less hypoxic! Main concern is running after the bike! I have no problem with the olympic distance but this half iron is a total different animal. I've ridden the course 3:09 training & 3:16 with a strong headwind maybe race day I will just do a 3:30 bike and hope I have legs left for the run, it will be hard to go that slow hmmm????? Help!!!!

pre ride taking 2 endurolytes and trying to hydrate before the ride
I'm drinking 2 bottles of heed during the ride
eating 1 bag power bites and two hammer gels on the bike
do you feel thats enough?or do I need more am I missing something?

I agree with your strategy on the bike, it's nice to see folks saying they will go a little slower on race day.....a good thing for the iron distance races!!

Try one gel about 20 minutes before your swim (good plan to hydrate btw)
two years ago they had water at the half way for us so definitely grab one of those to make it three bottles (two heed one water...or grab a gatorade if they have those)

don't forget about nutrition on the run....not sure what your speed/plan is but one gel every half an hour is a commonly accepted plan. they will have water and heed (i think) plus banannas etc. every couple of miles.....but bring your own gels and adjust as necessary.

My name's jc and i'll be up there tomorrow night with the family. I race 35-39, maybe we will bump into each other (black cervelo/desoto wetsuit)

Yep, same here.   First long-distance triathlon and second triathlon ever.  I'm crazy like that.  Had to give up my 6:30 time goal between the pool breaking down (so my swim is still Teh Suck) and having an IT band problem that prevents me from hammering the bike.   See you guys there!  (I'll be the 4'10"" redhead straggling in at around 7:00 or so.)

Pink princess, Yes I know I have seen you before! I train with Jimmy in Lake placid 4-5 days a week, We swim at Mirror Lake and usually run Henry's woods, John Brown farm, whiteface landing and the peninsula trail. I cut my TRI teeth with the mini tris at mirror lake.

Good luck tomorrow I hope to be finishing around the same time!
