Run
Comments: I seeded myself near the front and went out as fast as I could. It was congested right at the start but it didn't take long for things to settle down and thin out. I was pleasently surprised to hit the 1 mile marker at about 7:30. I just kept on breathing and pushing. After the big hill at 9th street I was really struggling to keep the pace up. There was a gal running behind me that had jingle bells on one of her shoes. *jingle, clomp, jingle, clomp* It was like a festive version of the serial killer crashing thru the woods trying to catch the dumb blonde in heels. Must.Not.Let.Jingle.Lady.Catch.Me. But of course, in the final stretch to the finish line, she came up with a burst to pass me up. Did I mention she's in the 55-59 age group? Ah well, maybe some day when I'm in my 50s I'll be fast too. :) Post race
Event comments: Two years ago, this race was my first ever 5K. It was about the furthest distance I could cover in one shot and took me 33:04 to complete. That's a 10 minute improvement in 2 years time. Maybe in two more years I'll be able to run a sub-20. Last updated: 2009-11-29 12:00 AM

I overslept a bit so I rushed about trying to get dressed and out the door. I managed to stuff down a banana and some water. Got to the Y and stood in line waiting to register then stood in line waiting for the bathroom. I waited as long as possible before I had to go back out into the cold.
I ran easy for 10 minutes. Legs felt like lead during the warmup. I had trouble getting moving. I worried that I would be slow, slow, slow during the race.
