DQ Tri/Du
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 7h 30m
Overall Rank = 74/189
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 16/29
Pre-race routine:

soft pretzel/diet coke/coffee
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 07m 58s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

felt great! good sighting - started out letting the entire wave go for about 15-20 seconds then took off and passed a bunch as they spread out more
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

everything came off ok - got my bike shoes on ok (didn't have them last year so was a little curious how I'd do)
What would you do differently?:

maybe clip my shoes into the pedals beforehand but not sure it would make that big of a difference
Bike
  • 44m 36s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 20.85 mile/hr
Comments:

think my rear tire was semi flat - felt and looked like it - maybe not inflated enough - I usually overinflate and didn't this time - my legs were killing me the whole ride and that's unusual for me
What would you do differently?:

overinflate my tires like I normally do
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

took my feet out of the bike shoes right at the end of the bike leg but had problems getting my right foot out and kind of pulled strained my calf muscle - otherwise pretty good transition
What would you do differently?:

undo all three velcro straps on bike shoes so foot comes out easier
Run
  • 24m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

horrible run - legs were killing me from the bike ride problem and my right calf was seriously tight - took two 20 second walks
What would you do differently?:

overinflate bike tires to avoid overstressing my legs
Post race
Warm down:

drank lots of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike prep

Nice race Greg. I came in right behind you in the Clydes category. I remember passing you on the run but I was in an earlier wave ( had a horrible swim)

thanks - you too! you should have came up after the race and introduced yourself - I went down with another guy from BT - were you the guy with the teamjavelin shorts that said keep it up #128?

if you were right behind me in the Clydes we got ripped off - the three guys that won the Clyde awards had already won in their age groups so you and I should have got something - I
e-mailed the guy and he said I was right and he'll be sure to fix it at the next race!

Nice race Greg!  Sorry the run didn't go great for you (still looked pretty good esp. with some walks in there), but looks like you had a pretty good swim & bike.

yeap, that was me ....team javelin shorts, no shirt .....i didn't even notice that the top 3 already got other awards ...that sucks ....but I actually left right away b/c I was racing to get back for the US Pro Race in Manayunk.

What's your next race?

I am doing the duathlon @ Thundergust and then Escape from DE and PhillyTri.

of course - my team javelin stuff arrives yesterday!

i was going to do Philly but had to withdrawal because I'm going to be out of town (shore for dad's birthday with a pretty full schedule) for a family thing so he gave me a deferral for next year's race! I may sign up for the Parvin Race in Vineland that weekend I can just zoom up from the shore and back down - but I probably won't know til that weekend!

I just signed up for the Stone Harbor TRI July 17th - that's a nice one!
I'll definitely do the Marlton TRI labor Day weekend and probably doing Brigantine.
