Local update:  The extreme temperatures the past few days didn't even seem that bad to me in the mornings, as it was not very humid.  Today seemed much worse even though it is not quite as hot, due to the high humidity.  Still too far off to get an accurate forecast at this point, of course.

Also, I ran the run course this morning to check out the hill right after T2 out of riverside park.  It is quite steep, could be 10%, but not very long at all.  Shouldn't be a problem.

I'm super excited to race, it'll be my first triathlon.  I tried out my wetsuit for the first time in the pool the other day.  Amazing how much of a difference it makes, I felt like aquaman.  I have no idea how the heat wave affected the river temperature, but I hope it is wetsuit legal (if not oh well, easier transition at least).

I think I’m going to be a tour guide again this year. I’ll be doing transition tours between 2 and 5 on Saturday. I’ll probably be working the yellow transition area. Come say hi!

Re:the weather- glad my wave starts early...so far the weather today says for nYC 73 and less than 50% humidity at 6 am, that's better than my local temps of 80 degrees and 70% humidity at 6 am..all I want is a decent temp for the run!  oh and maybe no wind too )

I think Chrissie Wellington once said in an interview that she always goes faster in races when she brings brownies to the volunteer tour guide the day before the race. Just sayin….

A few random tips, I'm not sure if these have already been said, hopefully they're useful

Swim:
* The waves take forever, I was in the last wave last year and the pro's had finished before we'd even started. Ah, well.
* It's fast. The middle of the river is much faster than by the bank.
* If you get into the water before your wave goes off you'll have to hold on (or swim) to avoid going with the current. I found it was better to stand on the pontoon and then jump in a couple of seconds after the start.
* You'll have to try hard to miss the exit, it's marked off in a big cone with buoy's
* DO NOT stand up until you can swim no further up the ramp. There's really nasty, thick, mud if you stand!

Bike
* The entry and exit to the transition is tight. Take it easy - I saw two crashes last year here.
* Course is rolling with no major hills.
* Two U-turns, one at each end of the course. Again, take it a bit easy.
* Watch out for dropped gear. I had to try and avoid: tubes, tires, bottles, gu, etc. Wish I could have collected it all afterwards!

Run
* Fairly steep hill coming out of T2
* Running along 72nd St is awesome because they close the road and you run down the middle of a 4-lane street between spectators. Wave at the cars stuck on one side of 72!
* There's quite a lot of shade in the park
* Central Park rolls a bit until you get to the top. There's two hills, one going up to Harlem Hill, and then coming up onto the East Side. Second one is longer, first one is steeper. There's not many spectators up here so I found it the hardest bit.
* On the East Side, when you go down a fairly steep hill (Cat's Paw hill, look for the cat perched on the rock up to your right) you're nearly at the end. Push it!

... (Cat's Paw hill, look for the cat perched on the rock up to your right)

few years ago, running in Central Park, was unaware of this and became immediately aware.  almost pooped myself until I realized it was fake!

Hhmmm ... any problems with goggles leaking if you put vaseline on your face?

Anyone know what the water temp is? It's been so hot recently I'm thinking we might be looking at a non-wetsuit swim ...

I was in the Hudson today.  It was 70-71.  It will be wetsuit legal.  They don't want people to drown.  I didn't see any Jellies today, but I did hear that others did.  I hope next week is not a repeat of 2 years ago.

Awesome info, everyone.  This will be my first time at the NYC tri.  My girlfriend and her dad are racing, too.

I'll be at Saturday's briefing but was wondering if iPod's were allowed on the bike and/or run courses.  Anyone?

That would be a definite no.  Can't think of any races that would allow headphones to be used - violation of USAT rules.

My tours start at 2pm on Saturday and run until 5. I’ll be wearing my volunteer shirt and probably my IM30.3 visor.

I’ll definitely be in the yellow transition tour area. You can still come on my tour if you’re going to be in the red transition area, since the route is 99% the same. I’ll be sure to point out where it’s different.

Looking forward to seeing some more BT’ers. I’ll be at the expo on Friday afternoon. I’ll be coming from work, so I’ll probably be overdressed.

As in past years, after you check in on Friday/Saturday, be sure to come back to the thread and post your race bib #’s so we can spot each other before or during the race. GO BT!

NYC fans make you feel like a RockStar! You will not need an ipod!

Enjoy the race...and think about letting your girlfrind's dad beat you...you may have to ask him for permission to marry his daughter one day.

Good luck to everyone racing!!!  Weather looks to be almost perfect,

Just remember, do not leave the athlete area after the race till you make your phone call if you need to (a company supplies phones for racers to call family when done to get back together), it is almost impossible to get back in once you leave!!!!

Swim faster than the jellies!!!

I spotted some red ones in Norwalk this weekend!!

Hello to all,
Unfortunately I been down with the flu and I've had to defer until next year. Completely bummed, really bummed.
Also didn't read the fine print when I made my reservations at the Hilton hotel, just was told that they needed 42 days notice to cancel (what bs). Hoping someone needs a room for Friday and Saturday night. Hilton said they wont refund my money but will allow me to change the name on the reservation. Looking to get back what I paid (at the discounted rate I received). Let me know.

Cool article...congrats!
Your NY friends should not diss the Hudson, especially since they've never set toe in it.
As a local, I'd swim in it all the time if I were allowed to.
Good luck on Sunday!

Has anyone ever left an old pair of running shoes at the swim exit.  I am in the farther transition area.  I know there is a risk of them being stolen.
