Yeah Tom! Be nice to the new girl (notice I am saying girl instead of woman or lady as this perpetuates my youthfulness - which while I whine that I am old - I'm really not and just how old are you? Do you even have room to talk? Ha ha ha.). Thanks David

she's feisty ... I am a decrepit 34 year old man but with the humor of a 14 year old so it averages out. She is nearly geographically Dayton , so just like family, Dayton gets to poke at near Dayton. I shall extend my paw of friendship and offer any help she needs with SBR

Damn, you're old. (Now's the time for the sarc font, diamond.)

It'd be good to see you there newbz.

Hey diamond, one more thing. If you make your training log public we can all check in on you and see how your training is going. It also makes it easier to answer any questions you have about this crazy sport when we can see what you've been doing.

And they say chivalry is dead, ha, good to know there is someone in the "neighborhood" even if you are a decrepit 34 year old and I just may ask for help when it comes to the bike piece.
Newbz - I hope you can make it to the race too. It would be nice to have a fellow Gen Y person there to help keep all of these 30-something Gen X-ers in check - Note, I don't discriminate when it comes to being "fesity" -  it's equal opportunity feistiness. Besides while USAT says that I am 29 I am really 28 for most of the year so I'm not 30 yet. And Bananatoes you claim to have the mind of a 14 year old boy - I will just say - you have met your match.

Woof!  You make 30 sound old!  Let me tell you I'm USAT 30 this year and hot damn if I'm not in the best shape I have EVER been in my LIFE.  I puffy heart triathlons!

And enjoy following Newbz around.  The view is amazing!  er, um even if I do feel like a cougar around him!

Sorry K - I was not intending for 30 to sound old - at least not to you and if you feel like a cougar around Newbz then so will I as it seems that you and I are very close in age. Sadly, I don't think I will be able to enjoy the view because I don't think there is any way that I will be able to keep up with him [Sigh].

Oh look at what we've done to this nice little thread. It used to be so inviting. Now it's been saddled with talk of age, cougar-ism, personal slams.

I think I'll add to it!

K and diamond, just be glad you're not as old as Tom. If I ever get to be as old as him I've instructed my wife to take me out behind the barn and shoot me.

With all the posting on here has anyone had time to train for this race?

does this mean I have to crack by on david or do I start making fun of brue cause he is older than me?
I will go with the crack on david- I cant wait till you say that to my face...of course I will have to bring you a stool to stand on so that can happen. Zing

I cant wait until it gets warmer and race threads can be about races but I will take this witter banter in the interim.

No need to bring a stool Tom, I'll kick you in the shins before I say it. That way you'll be just about my height and unable to catch me as I run away afterwards.

(OK, I'm done. I don't want any newbie's to think all we do is pick on each other around here. I'll save the rest of my smack talk for the race, when ya-all are passing me up on the run.)

This is how it starts. Drop a few dollars on some running shoes. Then some idiot on BT tells you to go ahead and get the USAT membership. Then you spend a few hundred on a road bike. Next thing you know you want a wetsuit and maybe some flippers and hand paddles to do some swim training with. Before you know whats happened you've worn out your run shoes and need two more pair. At the end of your first season you've outgrown your road bike and decide a $5,500 tri bike sounds peferectly reasonable. After all can you really put a price on good health? Soon you've laid out money for a coach, speedsuit, aerohelmet, Zipp wheels, singlet, Zoot shoes, and that Ironman entry. Of course you need to travel to the race venue a few times before the big event to ride the course. Fuel, hotel, food costs. But it's ok, you're chasing a dream.

You've lost most of your friends due to the insane amount of time you spend training, your wife (or husband) rolls their eyes when you try to reasonably explain that no, you can't go see your inlaws today, you have a 6 hour bike to get in. All the while you're eating 5000 calories a day and still loosing weight.

You finish the IM and suddenly have way too much time on your hands. You take a few days off training and start to get migrane headaches. You're bored and restless. You're sad, angry. You know what you need?

To sign up for another race!

So, what have you done to yourself? You've come to the dark side. Welcome. It's a fun place to be.

You don't need to keep up- it's all about pace booty baby!  Best thing about the run on a sprint tri?  As we are running IN to the finishline the OLY distance guys are running OUT on the course.  Oh my poor neck from the whiplash!
