Pre-race routine:

Good night sleep. Woke up with the last thing my brother and sister in law told me. They said I would be in more pain after 22miles then I was during my HIM when by back hurt during the ride then I had a side stich the entire run. I had my PB&J, water and hit the road. On the ride to Houst I had a bannana and more water. Arrived at the GRB just before 6. I went into the GRB and sat on the ground looking around until about 6:30. I wish I would have know more BTers would be there so I could have chatted a bit. Went to the red corral and placed myself around the 3:40 pace group.
Event warmup:

Jogged in place in the corral

Cannon sounded and thought to myself it was just another training run. Went out the first 2 miles close to 8min pace. I felt great and started to pick it up a bit. All 3 of my training runs over 20 miles never had me winded or sore so I know I had not given it my all yet. I picked up my pace a good bit and when I hit the 10k mat and saw i was at 48:15 I felt nervous, but I knew I had lots left. My wife, son and her parents where around 7 miles and that was a good sight for me.

Then we were able to see the half marathon runners totaly rocking the course. Myself and a few others just looked at each other in aww. I was still feeling real good and kept up my pace and stayed close to people who I thought knew what they were doing. As I approached the half marker I glanced at my watch. Not good. Once again I thought I was going to fast. My half time was 1:40. Oh no. Last year I ran (with my wonderful wife) a 2:09 half marathon then the run portion of my HIM was a 2:06. So I was a good 30 minutes in no mans land.

I continued to enjoy the supporters, and entertainment. I was just trying to soak it all in. I saw my family around mile 18 again. My son was yelling go daddy as load as he could. I gave him a high 5 and a big smile to my wife. She was relieved to see me in good spirits because she knew my goal was 3:45 and I was way ahead of that pace. My 30k time was 2:23 and at this point I stopped thinking of no mans land.

The last portion of the race I started to get weak mentaly. I say that because I was looking for the mile markers much more and was getting excited when I past them. The keg on the ultra truck in memorial park looked very tempting, but I was trying to beat me so I declined. I kept passing people, but my legs were starting to get a little tight. I kept thinking it was all mental so I just kept going. As I turned to corner to the finish line It was a huge rush and I relaxed because I knew I would make it. About 3 blocks out I started a dead sprint to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

? I know I can BQ in the next 2-3 years and I will train accordingly.

I also know I need to ride more so my next HIM and can finish strong, but that is another story.
Post race
Warm down:

hobbled to get my stuff and meet the wife. Had a beer and brisket (HEB was great)

Not too sore as I write this on the day after and I am surprised
