Total Time = 47m 34s
Overall Rank = 235/350
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 26/36
Pre-race routine:

Stretched, talked with friends. No warm up swims were allowed.
Swim
  • 47m 34s
  • 1760 yards
  • 02m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Tough first leg. Took a while to get into a rhythmn, energy expenditure seemed too high, so I mostly breathed off my left side. Navigation was horrible, which meant that I had to swim perpendicular to the course several times to round the buoys. Had a hard time balancing with wave action despite the chop and current being minimal.
What would you do differently?:

More open water swim practice and kick more.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

A lack of OW practice and I just incorporated new techniques into my stroke, which has had a negative effect on my endurance. Next year!!!

Event comments:

Race was good. It was an eye-opener to me as to where my abilities rank relative to other swimmers. That is to say, quite poor.

I saw the water temp was 73, probably high for this time of year. Was it hot with the wetsuit on?

Ernie,

I did not find it hot at all, but one person I spoke with wished she had not worn her wetsuit.  I love my wetsuit, so as long as it's legal, I'm wearing it.
