Pre-race routine:

Woke up and ate and put air in the tires of my bike and my wifes bike.
Event warmup:

Short run around the first loop to check the icy areas. Not many icy areas.
Run
  • 08m 7s
  • 1.4 miles
  • 05m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

I stayed up front and wore the helmet on this first run since it was short. I was leading until the last 200 yards and youngster passed me. That was fine as I needed a pacer. I knew I would cook him on the bike. The race director was leading us on his bike because we were the first wave and he fell on the ice about 1/2 mile before the finish. He go up and said he was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe run a bit faster.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

So I decided to do this bike leg with just the tennis shoes on top of the speed plays since it was only 3.3 miles and I knew transitions would make a big difference.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing good call on the shoes and the helmet.
Bike
  • 24m 11s
  • 9.9 miles
  • 24.56 mile/hr
Comments:

So even though I wore tennis shoes I had the second fastest bike split. Only beaten by xterra Pro Cody Waite. So I had no one to pace off of as the 2 runners that were closee to me on the run were getting farther behind so I just went on effort. I didn't want to kill the first bike anyway. Very good ride.3.3 milea at 24.1 MPH.

2nd bike was 2 loops of the same course. I used the cycling shoes on the second bike leg and was much faster. Go figure. I had the fastest bike split overall on this one. So I beat Cody. Pushed real had at the turn arouond to finish up. 6.6 miles at 24.6 mph
What would you do differently?:

Run

Comments:

Much better run overall than the first one. Tougher course But I pushed in certain sections better and opened up the lead on my 2 youngsters behind me. Did not finish with this but we finished on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Nothing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

One of the best values around. Just a perfect day for it. Not to cold and no snow or ice on the bike course. Good to see Fil, Julia, Vik and others. My friend Theresa did her first multisport event ever and did awesome. My wife was 4th in her age group.
