Pre-race routine:

Get off red eye from Singapore after 4 weeks abroad. Jump in car to beach, have a late night catching up with friends and opt in on 6km run to try out fitness.

Oh yeah, I went out far too hard and by 3km was essentially running backwards. Nice kick start to the years fitness.
What would you do differently?:

Some training might have helped. Having not run in over a month I'm pretty glad I gave it a crack and started my Australia day with a run.
