Comments: as stated the race was 48 laps around the track (actually was like 47.7something around). this being the first of three races for me the plan WAS to go out at about a 1:52 per lap pace (about a 6:50 mile). well those doing only the half took off at a pretty good clip and i was cruising right along at about 1:45s per lap so i stayed with it. felt strong the whole way. took a gel about 15 mins prior to start, then on lap 15 requested my gatorade bottle, which was handed to me on lap 16, then i gave it back on lap 17. at the half way mark, actually just past at lap 25 i took another gel and asked for my water bottle and repeated the process from laps 15-17. focused on staying comfy the rest of the way and did so averaging something like the 1:45s per lap.............In addition to this being a "stand alone" half marathon and everyone entered was eligible for awards, this was also part one of the "gold medal challenge". the second part of the GMC was the full marathon the next day.....going into part two i was feeling good and comfy and sitting about 4 minutes off the pace in second place.............. What would you do differently?: hindsight? i would go a tic slower and conserve more. however, i felt strong the entire race and recovered very quickly afterwards. If i had only been doing the half and not the GMC, i think i couldve gone faster....... Post race
Warm down: stretch, gatorade, food, stretch, change clothes into second race of the day attire (marathon relay).........jet home quick and rock Toby to sleep for his afternoon nap.......back to the Pettit..... What limited your ability to perform faster: n...a...d...a... very happy with this run Event comments: plenty of aid stations??? well being inside on a track you passed on every lap so, yup, 48 of them!!!! the volunteers are TREMENDOUS at this event and the organization of the event is downright incredible!! wake up at uberearly and head out to pick up sherpashwimmycoacher. over to speedway to fuel up on cappachino and gatorade then over to the event site known as the Pettit Center, home of the Magnificent Oval........once there, stake out space to set up a small Donkey Corral and then over to the water station to drop off water bottles (no water cups due to it being an indoor event. water bottles on the table in turn three of a 455 meter - 2 lane track which were handed to you one lap after requesting as you ran by......)
5 laps around the oval with some drills thrown in for funsies!! nerves were kinda jumpy as this was the first of three different races for me over the weekend.
