So I've rode most of the course, and in particular, the main loop,  It's a relatively light rolling course, with the largest hill coming in and going out of the town of Milan (where I live).  On the main loop as you go out on St Rt 113 and St Rt 60 (miles 24-40) it is pretty open, so if there is any wind from the east or north, you are going to feel every bit of it.  Once you hit mile 40, and head back west, you are kind of protected by trees, as you are on some of the country roads.

The run course is going to be pretty much flat, with an occasional bump here or there.  But you are right off the lake, so any wind that day will come into play.

nuttysami123 - 2010-04-07 8:17 AM Yes, get that room booked!! We're staying at Hotel Breakers! I just got off of the phone with Cera Sport and they are having the person in charge of the Rev3 stuff give me a call later on. I told the nice lady on the phone that I have never heard of their product and she laughed and said that is a recurring theme! LOL! Good to know about the rocktane too. I really want to try to live off of the course as much as I can. We'll see how that goes!

I did find out that REV3 has a discount code for ordering off the site too, PM me if you need it, it is 15% off!

I called Cera and spoke to the lady in charge of the Rev3 races. She was very nice! She said that Cera Sport Citrus is what will be served on the course. She also told me about the discount and gave me permission to post the code on here. It is Rev3. It gives us 15% off of the products.

Just signed up, GULP!    This will be my first HIM.  I will be dragging my husband and son (he'll be 15 months by then!), it should be a fantastic logistical nightmare (grin).

Hi everybody!  I'm in for the half here, my second!  As Kristen stated, there will be a large BT group from MI and quite a few athletes that I know of that aren't on this forum as well.  It is gonna be one heck of a party!!!

Most everybody I know of is staying at the Breakers Hotel, so it will be tri nerd city!  Can't wait!

Good to know! Maybe it will coincidentally be the weekend we are coming over for our own mini training camp!
Oh, wanted to give a quick review on the CeraSport Citrus product. I ordered my case of packets and they came in very quickly. I used the REV3 coupon code and saved 15% on my order.
I've used the drink twice now and I tolerated it just fine. Fortunately for me, I have a cast-iron gut so not much bothers it. Anyway, the drink mixes up very quickly and smoothly with water. As for the flavor, I really don't think it's sweet.. not like sugar sweet. It sort of has a creamy taste, not a crisp refreshing taste. I usually use Accelerade, and it's not at all like that. I sort think it reminds me of an orange cream sickle, just not as sugary. I have a long bike ride this Saturday so I thought I would mix a packet of the CeraSport, a scoop of CarboPro with my water and see how that is for me. Maybe if I mix it with ice too that will help it be a little more refreshing-tasting.

Thamk you for the Cera Sport review... creamy?  Hmmmm...  I am not so sure that that is what I will be wanting for so long.  I guess I shall order a small sample of packets and see how I do on a long ride with it.

I typically use Infint and am debating if I should stick to my nutrition and use only water from the course.

Coming in from Nebraska and will stay in Cleveland but wanted to spend the night before the race near the site. The website mentions Breakers as being the preferred site but are they offering any discounts?  I didn't see anything about that.

Started my 20 week training plan this morning. First time in the pool in who knows how long. I made the 2000 yards that I was supposed to put in. I;m sure it will get better, but that was tough this morning.

Hi everybody! I will be doing my first 1/2 at the race. Really looking forward to it. A bit of info about the area that might help: Winds and currents are predominantly west to east. The hills shouldn't be too bad at all, as it is fairly flat in that area. Looks like a fun course. I will be doing a test bike sometime this summer and will babble about it after. I am staying at the Breakers, and if you follow the link at the top of the rev site under hotel info, I think you get a bit of a discount. I would book the hotel soon, as it will sell out for sure! We got ours booked, and was really quite reasonable, and the room has a fridge and microwave which I was happy about. Here is the link with the discount built in:

https://reservations.cedarpoint.com/WorldXA/LaunchApp/Booking.aspx?v...

Glad to see a lot of us are bringing spouses and kiddos. My little fella and wife are coming for the party as well. I think he will really love it. He is only 2, but loves bikes (too much time with daddy in the bike shop already??).

I will be really curious about how bad I get my butt kicked at this race! I can do any one of the distances on its own pretty easy, but that distance strung together should be really interesting (curious about pacing and projected finish times compared to doing individual legs on their own.) Sorry to ramble too much, raced twice this weekend and still jacked!!!!
See everyone their and can't wait!

I would think discount or not, staying at Breakers is better/easier/cheaper than driving from Cleveland the night before

swimmermama - 2010-01-29 6:49 PM

The location makes me happy for my family.  Cedar Point is a much better way for a 5 and 8 year old to stay busy than just standing around and waiting.

We used to live in Sandusky, and my husband is still there quite a bit for work, so if anyone has any questions about the city, we may be able to answer.

Since you used to live there, do you have any course knowledge for the bike and run?  Is it smooth?  Any monster hills that are tough?  Flat?

I need some help please from those of you who live around the area.. I'm planning my mini-training camp weekend for July 23-25 and am trying to figure out where to stay that is super close to some part of the bike course so we can just hop on it and ride, and is somewhat kid-friendly or has kid-friendly stuff nearby (not Cedar Point!).
I've narrowed down my choices to somewhere around Huron.. maybe Comfort Inn Cedar Point or River's Edge Inn (looking for clean and affordable, maybe around $100/night)? Our plan is to bike the entire course, do some running, and of course, swim in Lake Erie. I was thinking that Lakefront Park in Huron might be a good place to do that..
thoughts? suggestions? Thank you so much!! Hope everyone's training is going well!

Sawmill Creek Resort is hosting a training day - maybe that same weekend? Not sure how affordable - you can check their website.

I am also looking at coming up from VA over the weekend of July 23-25 to get a preride in.

One of things I was looking at is the maps for the swim. What are peoples thoughts on the swim course for the half? They only show a 2.4 mile course under the swim section. Multiple swim courses could be confusing. I have emailed them but have not heard back.

Great!  Hubster & beast will be in tow with me.  We booked in at the La Quinta (6 miles from Sawmill) as Sawmill isn't pet friendly.

I'm excited to actually try the course!  Even though I'm pathetically undertrained at this point.

WOnderful job by the Cleveland Tri Club hosting this event!

Checked the actual climbing on the bike, and it appears to be less than 600'. Should be a nice fast course! (as long as the wind cooperates)
