Subject: pairing non-garmin HRM/strap with 310XT
I've lost the HRM that came with my 310XT. I have an old one from another system. Is there a way to pair this non-garmin HRM with my 310XT? I'd rather avoid buying a new $70 unit...

You can use  Power tap one if you have one. Just follow the directions how to pair.

As far as I know it has to be a garmin or polar tap brand strap. Polar, etc will not work.

You could look for a used one from a 305, that could work

Your HR strap has to be ANT+ compatible.  If it's relatively old, it's likely not ANT+.  I assume if it's ANT+ you'd find an ANT+ logo on it somewhere.

Hi a quick question relating to this thread. I too have lost my 310xt HRM strap, but think it is somewhere in the house (I took it off after spin class on Monday, and not seen since). The mother in law and wife have tidied the house since them. My question is: How does the HRM activate? Is it via the heart beat and then it pairs with the watch or does the HRM strap remain in an on mode and the watch will pair when it is in the same location?
If it is the latter, can I simple walk around until the watch pairs and the lost in that area or am I on to a lost cause?

This sounds like a BRILLIANT idea.  I had the HRM strap on while getting ready for a run today with the 310XT by the back door.  When I walked in to the Kitchen (about 10' away from the Garmin) I heard it vibrate and it let out the tone when it pairs with devices.  

FWIW, I bought my strap new on eBay for $52.85, free shipping and no tax.  It came quick, sealed in the original packaging:

Had to try it for giggles.  My strap was under a pile gear from running today and the Garmin picked it up from about 5' away.

I have found it.... did the sunday roast today and got out the oven gloves and hey presto underneath was the strap. I then got my 310xt and it found the strap too.
